Chapter 2
Layla’s POV
Nothing would have prepared me for the humiliation and pain I was about to go through as I stood before Damien, the gaze in his eyes were on like anything I have seen before. He looked at me coldly and I could tell there was something serious going on.
It couldn’t be the offer of being the priestess, he was the first person I told when I left the coven
What could this be about
“I reject you, Layla White, as my mate and Luna of this pack.” Alpha Damien repeats leaving me in complete shock. I'm dreaming, right?. Someone should please pinch. The pain that came was raw, dropping me to my feet.
It's not a dream.
‘Wh…what?” My voice was breaking as I tried to hide that I was panicking, my whole body was in shock, different thoughts went through my mind, as realization hit me that Damien, my boyfriend of over four years that had promised me the whole world was rejecting me in front of everyone.
“You heard me right Layla, I am rejecting you.” He said again before moving closer to me, closing the distance between us. I stared into his eyes, his eyes were always filled with love for me, but today they were different, his deep ocean blue eyes were empty and emotionless. He felt foreign, my tummy rumbled and if felt like hot lava ran through them and settled at the bottom, I winced slowly at the pain.
“Damien you can’t do this to me.” I managed to say as tears flowed from my eyes. I reached out my hands to caress his face, he loves me caressing his smooth chin, I needed to know if the person standing in front of me right now was really Damien.
“Don’t touch me with your filthy hands.” He hissed before pushing my hands away. My heart broke into several pieces at his words.
“Da…Damien.” I said slowly clutching my chest. My eyes landed on the crowd, they were laughing and whispering at each other. They seem to be enjoying seeing me wallow in pain.
Nothing could have ever prepared me for this rejection, I wouldn’t believe it if someone had told me that Damien would reject me. I love Damien with everything in me, he had been my lifetime crush since I was ten till he asked me to his girlfriend when I was fourteen, we had always planned our future together.
Memories of the day we had our first night together, the pain of giving my virginity to him, all the promises he had made that night to me, how he had convinced me to abandon my role as the soon to be High Prietess of the coven and I had done it without a second thoughts, all flooded back to me, my legs went numb and I fell to the ground.
“Why? Why me?” I said slowly clutching my chest, as they burned in pain. I can’t think of anything wrong I had done to him to deserve this heartbreak and humiliation.
“Do you want to know why?” He said his tone were evident that he was mocking me.
“Ye.. yes.” I replied looking up at him, my tears clouded my eyes, making my vision blurry but I could still see the evil grin planted on his face.
“You see Layla, I can’t marry a witch.” He mocked as he laughed loudly. My heart skipped a bit, leaving me breathless as I tried to make sense of what he had just said. It didn’t make sense, we were together yesterday planning our future when we finally claimed each other as mate in front of everyone. What could have gone wrong?
“Why then did you promise me we would be together forever?” I asked as I cleaned the tears that clouded my eyes with the back of my palm. I need to see his face clearly as he forms those lies he had prepared.
“I made no promise to you! You willingly gave yourself to me, you cheap slut. Don’t try to guilt trip me when we both enjoyed it together.” He blurted coldly
“Damien!!” I screamed, I couldn’t believe he would blatantly lie in my face. He walked to me and scrunched down to my face. His brows furrowed together.
“You lying piss of...” Before I could complete the words I felt a slap land on my cheeks, I held my face in shock.
Damien had hit me, never have I imagined that he would raise his hands on me, and in front of everyone. Laughters filled the air as they all joined in mocking me.
“If you really think you would be my mate, then you are a dreamer! Everyone hates the witches including your own father. He spat out, I couldn’t make sense of what he had just said.
My father had married my mother despite his family’s objection, they had rejected my mother to be his wife but their love had prevailed against all odds thrown at them. The Redmoon pack viewed the witch clan as a powerful force that overshadows them, everyone had called my father a weak man because despite the fact that he was an Alpha his strength and power were no match to my mother. She was a powerful witch.
The Alpha selection ceremony all depended solely on who the Coven had chosen. For several years anyone who had their support turned out to be the Alpha King.
We were that powerful, but my father had never showed his displeasure towards my mother’s clan.
Is Damien lying to me to hurt me more? What does he mean by my father hates the witches. I am a hybrid with the witch bloodline. Does it mean my father hates me too? I shaked away the horrible thoughts already forming in my head.
“What do you mean?” I asked him as I stood up from the ground.
“I don’t need to answer you! You will find out yourself, but for now I have a little surprise for you.” He said as a mischievous smile formed in his lips.
