Chapter 2
I actually intended to keep not a single cent.
But then I thought, what if this caused the transaction to fail.
It would not be worth it if I couldn't exchange for Alex's ten years of life.
Alex kept nagging in my ear, "Rachel, stop being stubborn. I already made a deal with the buyer. Cash buyers are hard to find. If you miss this chance, you might never get another offer like it."
I directly shook him off and said, "I already said I won't sell, do you not understand?"
He also got angry and said, "Then don't treat your dad."
Just then, the buyer came out.
Alex spotted him and hurried over with a big smile.
I took the chance to slip away to the hospital.
I didn't have a house to sell now, I didn't have a loan, I worked for a few years, and I had less than one hundred thousand dollars.
That wasn't enough for the surgery.
Still, I went to the hospital and got the doctor to prep the bill for the operation.
I put down all the money I had as a deposit.
I could also get the follow-up money.
In my previous life, I even started researching the lottery under the pressure of being unable to raise funds and reaching a breaking point.
I had memorized the lottery numbers of the last few draws thoroughly and I didn't expect it to come in handy now.
On the way to the hospital, I passed by a lottery store and bought a lottery ticket from memory.
Then went to the hospital, had the doctor write a prescription, and prepaid as much money as possible at the hospital.
Now, there was less than 300 dollars left in my bank account.
There was a small remainder because hospital prepayment could only be made in whole numbers.
I cashed out all the change.
Anyway, the cash would not be exchanged.
Now, there was one cent left in my account.
After I finished everything, I finally had a moment to check my phone.
Alex had sent me dozens of messages and also called me dozens of times.
I'd seen them earlier, but I ignored them.
Now that I had time, I started reading his messages.
Alex: [Rachel, where are you?
[Are you really not selling the house? What about your dad's treatment?
[Don't be angry with the angry words I said just now. I am also too anxious to think of you.
[We still need to get the money. If you don't want to sell the house, I've already talked to a bank manager. Your job's stable, so you can borrow quite a bit. That way, your dad can still get the surgery.]
I hadn't finished it yet. Alex called, "Rachel. where are you? I've already set up a meeting with the bank manager. Just come back and we'll head over to get the loan sorted."
I rejected it directly, "No need, I'm not getting a loan."
Alex became anxious, "Rachel, what's wrong with you? Are you really giving up on your dad's treatment? We're all trying to figure out how to get the money. Don't give up."
He was so annoying.
I hung up on him.
I remembered that mystery man would be showing up tomorrow.
On this day in my previous life, Alex disappeared for the whole day.
No matter what I did, I couldn't get in touch with him.
It was also the beginning of this day that Alex's attitude towards me began to change 180 degrees.
That was why I was sure that he'd made the deal that day.
Now, I was leaving him with one cent. Hope he enjoyed trading it away.
After that, I went to the hospital to take care of my dad and then I headed home.
Just arrived home, Alex asked me with a serious face, "Rachel, what's going on? Why is there only one cent left in your account?"
