Sylvie and I were closing the second suitcase when Graham called from downstairs.

“I’m taking Nico out for lunch. He needs to relax after everything that happened.”

Neither of us answered.

“Do you two want anything?” he called again.

We remained silent.

Graham sighed impatiently.

“Fine. Keep sulking.”

A few seconds later, the front door closed.

I watched through the window as Graham drove away with Daphne and Nico.

The moment his car disappeared, I called the manager of a furnished apartment building near my studio.
