When we got home, I sat down on the couch with a serious look on my face.

Stella sat across from me, looking like a kid who'd just gotten in trouble, hands folded neatly on her knees.

"Stella," I cleared my throat, trying to sound like the man of the house, "what happened today is a big deal. We need to take this seriously."

"Yeah, yeah, totally serious." Stella nodded so hard.

I continued, making sure my tone left no room for argument, "Pre-pregnancy checkups are all about our future baby's health. This isn't something we can mess around with.
