Three hours after the ambulance brought me in, Ethan appeared at the hospital-room door.

I heard his quick steps in the corridor before he entered. His tie was still knotted from the financing dinner.

My sister, Nora had called him from my bedside and told him about the blood loss. He arrived asking where the doctor was, then looked at me as if he still expected an argument about the accounts.
