Chapter 7
Aya was about to leave.
She was at the airport when she quickly called me. “Maya, Hayden Jenkins is back. I saw her here.”
“Aya, don’t be ridiculous. You’ve told me before that she was the one who got between Damon and me, right? Relax, I can handle her as his wife.”
“But…”
“No buts. If she tries to stir up trouble again, I’ll put her in her place. Now, get on that plane.”
The boarding announcement had already started, so I raised my voice. “Dereck, you better take good care of Aya overseas, or you'll have me to answer to.”
“Take care.”
After those words, I hung up immediately.
Tears were already clouding my vision.
I never expected that Aya would always stand by my side unwaveringly.
Back in college, we both had our eyes on the two most unattainable people at school.
We were jokingly called the school's most devoted admirers.
At the office, we were often summoned by the professors together.
The professor pointed at our papers, deeply disappointed.
“Maya, Aya, if you put as much energy into your studies as you do chasing crushes, your grades wouldn’t be rock bottom.”
We’d write apology letters together.
Aya was even more impulsive than me back then.
When classmates ridiculed us, she’d fire back without hesitation.
Our friendship was forged during those college days.
