Chapter 4
The following day.
After the doctor finished his rounds, I found myself staring absently at the TV mounted on the wall. Damon was as busy as ever, always preoccupied with emails or phone calls. The demands of managing Bishop Corporation had long stripped him of much personal freedom.
Out of the blue, I broke the silence.
"Do I have any friends? Could one of them come to keep me company?"
He hesitated for a moment, as if trying to remember someone. "There is one."
His voice carried a hint of irony, implying that someone like me didn't have many friends. He made a phone call and then turned back to me.
"She'll be here in half an hour. I have a meeting, so I need to head to the office."
I nodded. "Alright."
With that, he packed up his laptop and left. His brisk footsteps told me he was anxious to escape the confines of this hospital room. It was obvious that this place made him uneasy.
