Chapter 6
At the bridal shop, Sophia took the pen from the manager, and just as she was about to sign, a familiar voice called out.
"So it is you, Sophia, who is giving up the wedding dress," Emily said.
Sophia turned to look. Emily was dressed in an expensive suit, looking like a delicate doll as she clung tightly to Adam.
And Adam, who used to only wear black and white, was now in a matching couple's jacket with Emily. It was a bold, woven design that he never would have chosen before.
Sophia was not surprised. After all, Adam was always willing to bend his own rules for Emily. She was used to it by now. Nothing about them could surprise her anymore.
"I am not the one giving up the dress. You are the ones asking for it," Sophia said coolly.
Her face stayed unbothered, and with just a couple of sentences, she flipped the whole situation around.
She had thought it was just some strangers about to tie the knot. She figured she would be helping someone else out, letting them have their happy ending.
But now that the couple turned out to be Adam and Emily, she suddenly felt reluctant to play the good guy.
She asked herself why the wedding dress she had designed herself should become a prop in their happy ending.
Or maybe what she really wanted to ask was why he had betrayed her, why he had trampled on her love and tossed her aside like she was nothing.
Emily's face flashed with annoyance. She had been hoping to humiliate Sophia, but ended up getting outplayed instead.
She had her parents' favoritism and Adam's undivided devotion. But that did not stop her from being jealous of Sophia. She envied how Sophia was always so perfect, always number one in everything. She just had to prove that she was better off than Sophia.
There was a soft thud as Emily dropped to her knees, desperation written all over her face. She reached out and clutched Sophia's sleeve.
"Sophia, please, let me have the wedding dress. I really love it. I know you have never liked me, but I just want to look beautiful on my wedding day," Emily pleaded, tears streaming down her face.
To anyone watching, it looked like Sophia was deliberately giving Emily a hard time.
Adam's brows knitted together, and his eyes were filled with irritation and tenderness. The tenderness was for Emily, while his irritation cut right through Sophia.
He pulled Emily up forcefully and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "If you want it, I would hand it over to you, even if it meant dying for it," Adam said, his voice full of devotion.
The other customers in the shop started whispering to each other.
"Wow, what a shameless woman. Clinging to that wedding dress just to humiliate that poor girl?" someone muttered.
"Seriously, it is just a wedding dress. Why not let her have it? Come on, it is her sister," another person added.
"Honestly, she looks like she has been dumped and cannot get a man, so now she is just jealous that her sister has such a great fiancé," someone else chimed in.
All it took was Emily's fake tears, and suddenly, everyone was painting Sophia as the villain in every way possible.
They had no idea that Adam was the man who had left her, the father of the child she had lost. They did not know Adam had once said those exact words to Sophia too, and back then they had meant the world to her.
The only thing they got right was that she really had been abandoned. The man who abandoned her was standing right there, letting her take all the blame. They saw what Emily wanted them to see. They did not see what it cost Sophia.
If Emily wanted the wedding dress so badly, then she would let her have it. After all, the jealous older sister could be the bigger person for once.
Sophia picked up the pen again and added two zeros to the transfer amount. "If you can afford this price, I will hand over the dress."
Emily grabbed the contract and instantly let out a shrill scream. "One hundred thousand dollars? Are you insane? Sophia, I know you are upset, but you cannot just use this as an excuse to rip us off! I am calling Mom and Dad right now!"
She pulled out her phone and started fake dialing, acting all dramatic.
Sophia stood her ground, refusing to back down from her one hundred thousand dollar demand. She knew they could afford it, and that was exactly why she was not about to let them have it so easily.
She was only human. She could feel hurt, she could get angry, and she could want payback too. She saw this as just a bit of payback up front before the real revenge began.
