Sophia Nash had just found out she was pregnant when her boyfriend Adam Rivers disappeared. Everyone said he died saving people from a mudslide. His last words to her were, "Sophia, once I make it as a full-time firefighter, I will ask you to marry me and bring you home." Sophia gripped her phone, her sobs echoing through the room as tears streamed down her face. "I don't want you to push yourself so hard. I just want you to stay alive." She could not accept that Adam was gone. Throwing caution to the wind, she charged into the mudslide zone and was crushed by a giant boulder. When she finally came to, the keepsake Adam had left for her was nothing but a bloody mess. Feeling utterly hopeless, Sophia made her way up to the hospital rooftop. "Adam, I promised I would never let you be alone." She clutched the badge the fire department gave her after Adam was gone, her eyes shining with fierce determination. Just then, her parents, who always favored her sister, Emily Nash, called. "Emily is bringing her boyfriend home. If you really want to die, at least wait until after her wedding. Come back, and do not embarrass us in front of his family on his first visit." They did not care whether Sophia lived or died. All that mattered to them was making sure nothing ruined Emily's happiness. With her heart weighed down by family ties, Sophia looked down from the rooftop, uncertainty flickering in her eyes. She was already miserable. She could not be selfish and bring anyone else down because of her. She staggered away from the rooftop, deciding to wait until Emily's wedding was over before she went through with it. But when she got home, she froze in the entryway. In the living room, a man stood there in a black jacket, striking and handsome. Under the tail of his eye was a mole she knew all too well. On those nights when they clung to each other as if their lives depended on it, she loved running her fingers over that mole. There was no way she could mistake her own lover. "Adam! Do you have any idea how much I have missed you?" Sophia cried out.
