Chapter 2
"So... what was the real reason you broke up with me back then?" I couldn't help blurting out.
I really wanted to know.
He even talked about having a baby now.
So why did he dump me back then?
As soon as I brought it up, Alex looked all pitiful. "Who said I ever wanted to break up with you?"
"You were the one who dumped me. I never agreed to it," he mumbled.
His words hit me like a slap in the face.
Wait, I was the one who dumped him?
I scrunched up my brows, racking my brain to remember what went down during our breakup.
A few seconds later, I remembered something.
During that time, Alex suddenly didn't answer calls or reply to my texts.
He vanished from every social media platform.
It was like he'd vanished from the earth.
All he left was a text saying he might be gone for a while.
I'd seen this old-school breakup move a million times before.
Honestly, I could already see how this was going to play out.
I figured it was only a matter of time before he hit me with some sob story about how something happened and he couldn't come back.
He'd say he didn't want to hold you back, so he had to break up with me.
Seriously, he was just treating me like an idiot.
No way was I gonna let him dump me first.
So I went ahead and broke up with him before he could.
I sent the breakup text, then hit block and delete without a second thought.
Who could've guessed that this time, things were different.
I stole a glance at Alex, who looked so pitiful, and gulped.
My bad.
I swore I didn't mean to.
Alex looked even more hurt. "And..."
"I waited for you every single day in the bushes downstairs."
"But... But you never even looked at me once!"
I blinked, totally lost. I didn't know why he waited for me in the bushes.
Besides, those bushes are barely knee-high. If he were hiding in there, there was no way I wouldn't have noticed.
Alex's eyes got even redder. "I'm serious. I really was waiting for you!"
"And that whole month, I was trailing after you every night."
"But... But you just ignored me, and you even locked me out!"
Hearing that, I started thinking hard.
Was I seriously that blind?
Someone was actually hiding in the bushes, and I didn't even see them?
No way. That couldn't be right.
Then it hit me!
During the time Alex said he was waiting for me, there really was a rabbit that kept trailing me in the bushes downstairs.
But honestly, I was so caught up in my breakup blues that I couldn't care less about it.
Hold up...
Was Alex seriously about to say he was that rabbit?
Barely stifling a laugh, I asked, "Wait, are you seriously saying you were that rabbit in the bushes downstairs?"
Alex nodded.
His eyes were so red that it looked like he could burst into tears any second.
Then Alex pouted, accusing me in a small voice, "I even have a baby now, and you still want to break up with me?"
"I waited for you downstairs, but you didn't even look at me..."
"And you just put me back in the bushes..."
It really sounded like I was a total heartless jerk.
But the real issue was that he was a man. He could never actually be pregnant!
And why did he have to imagine himself as a rabbit?
Did he somehow hear about me running into that rabbit in the bushes every night, and he just decided to play the part of that rabbit himself?
Looking at Alex, who honestly looked like some poor soul abandoned in the bushes for a whole month, I couldn't help but feel a little guilty.
I shook my head, feeling a bit exasperated.
Well, whatever.
At least my drama king boyfriend was back.
Might as well just comfort him.
