Chapter 2
My expression was indifferent as I carefully selected a suit. "It is up to me who I marry and it's none of your business. Please show some respect for my fiancé."
I handed a suitable suit to my guy. "You go change first."
My guy took the suit and was escorted by the attendant into the fitting room.
Calvin was upset. "Celia, I was joking when I told you to marry him this morning. Can't you even take a joke now?"
A joke?
Calvin's words struck me deeply, and I suddenly recalled my school days.
Back then, I was timid, and the boys in my class loved to bully me.
They used compasses to carve unsightly words on my desk, and in winter, they poured ice water on my head.
When I timidly told the teacher about this, the bullies said playfully, "We were just joking around with her. Who knew she couldn't take a joke?"
Everyone laughed at me. However, when Calvin learned about this, he burst into my classroom and smashed the desks of those bullies to pieces.
I'd always remember that day. Calvin grabbed the collar of the lead bully and roared, "A joke is only a joke if both sides find it funny.
"If Celia doesn't find it funny, stop. If you dare to bully her again, I'll make you pay."
It seemed Calvin had clearly forgotten what he said ten years ago.
Now, he stood against me, and like those who once hurt me, insulted me.
I lowered my eyes and suppressed the faint bitterness that rose in me. I had already moved on, but I still felt a quiet regret for what Calvin and I once had.
I said, "Calvin, you've gotten older, but it seems your brain hasn't caught up. Let me say this one last time—our engagement is off. I'm marrying Mr. Calhoun."
My guy had already changed into the suit. The suit, even the cuffs, seemed tailor-made for him, making him look handsome and charming.
Dani rolled her eyes and remarked sarcastically, "What's the point of him looking so good? It doesn't change who he is. He's still blind. Probably a bum too."
I, however, found him exceptionally handsome. I hadn't noticed his appearance just now, but I realized then that he was very good-looking, despite his blindness.
I stepped forward and gently adjusted his cuffs. "It looks great. Is this the one?"
Dani said softly, "Celia, everyone knows you're madly in love with Calvin. Are you just provoking Calvin now?
"It's good that you're smart, but overplaying your hand is bad. Calvin will take it seriously."
Calvin snorted in fury, looking upset.
He said, "Celia, how could you act so intimately with another man in front of me? I'm your fiancé.
"Our families work closely together. You really think you can cheat on me without consequences? Aren't you afraid I'll pull the plug on my partnership with your father? When your family's business starts bleeding, do you think you can handle the fallout?"
After I straightened my guy's collar, I looked back at Calvin.
I said, "Sorry, I have already informed Dad, and he has already canceled our collaboration with you. Our families have nothing to do with each other now."
"You actually broke off the partnership?" Calvin's face paled, disbelief mixed with a hint of unease. "Celia, you're not only challenging me for a blind person, but you genuinely want to break ties with me. Have you lost your mind, or have you been bewitched by him?"
Seeing this, Dani bit her lip, then suddenly rummaged through her bag and gasped, "Where's my ring? It's gone."
She turned to us. "Did you steal my ring?"
Immediately, everyone in the store turned toward my guy and I.
I was vigilant and shielded my guy. "He's blind. He didn't even pass by you. How could he have stolen your ring?"
Dani said, sounding wronged, "Celia, Calvin gave me that ring. It's very valuable. Even if I sold it secondhand, it would fetch a good amount for medical expenses." She glanced at my guy. "He's poor. Perhaps that's why he stole it.
"Why are you protecting him? Celia, are you jealous Calvin gave me a ring? Is that why you went to such lengths to make a scene, so Calvin would be jealous and misunderstand? Still, you can't let this guy steal the ring."
Hearing Celia, Calvin inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief. "Alright, Celia, as long as he returns the ring, I won't pursue this, and our engagement still stands."
This wasn't the first time Dani had framed someone.
In my previous life, Dani lost her footing and fell down the stairs, but she falsely accused me of pushing her.
Calvin immediately flew into a rage and reprimanded me.
Later, Dani framed me for all sorts of things, from me tearing up her homework to me leading others to bully her.
No matter how outrageous it was, as long as Dani said it, Calvin would trust her implicitly.
Through one misunderstanding after another, I went from explaining myself over and over, to feeling completely numb. And Calvin never trusted me once.
Seeing that Dani was using the same trick again, I slapped her. "You said Mr. Calhoun stole the ring? Prove it then. Otherwise, you deserved to be slapped for slandering my fiancé."
Dani was stunned by the slap. Her eyes immediately welled up.
Calvin's eyes were icy. He grabbed my hand and yelled, "Celia, how dare you hit Dani just to protect this guy? Keep this up, and I won't go easy on you."
His grip tightened, causing me to wince in pain. I was about to shake him off when my guy, who was beside me, reached out.
He seized Calvin's wrist, and flung it aside.
Calvin was caught off guard. He stumbled, and fell into Dani's arms.
I was surprised.
Calvin's face darkened. He spoke to my guy, "What do you think you are? How dare you lay a hand on me?"
Dani's face was even more enraged. "You're just a nobody. Even if you tried your hardest, you'll just be bottom scum, nothing compared to the wealthy. How dare you push Calvin?"
She turned to me. "Celia, you must have told him to do so. I'm calling the police right now. When they get here, none of you will get away."
The commotion was getting quite loud, and the store manager quickly rushed over.
Dani's face grew even more triumphant. "This is a store under the Calhoun Group. Even the Stark family has to defer to them. Since this guy dared to steal and hit someone here, Mr. Holmes won't let him off the hook."
After she finished, she pointed at my guy. "Mr. Holmes, he stole my ring. Send him to the police station right away."
The store manager, George Holmes, followed her finger. When he saw my guy's face, his pupils constricted.
He barked, "Shut up. How dare you be so disrespectful to Mr. Calhoun?"
