Chapter 2
"Alright, I'll give it a shot," Liam said softly.
I watched as he walked into the kitchen, awkwardly tying on the apron.
The apron was one I'd bought ages ago, with a pink cat design. Seeing it on his supermodel body looked so out of place it was almost funny.
I pulled out my phone and secretly snapped a bunch of photos.
I sent the pics to my bestie, Casey Guimond.
Casey replied instantly: [Holy shit! Isabel, have you lost your mind? That's Liam. You actually made him wear a pink apron? Aren't you scared he'll strangle you when he gets his memory back?]
I texted back: [Right now he's my sweet little puppy. He'll do whatever I say.]
Casey: [Girl, you're savage. Seriously, you must be the devil himself.]
I put my phone away and slipped into the kitchen.
Liam was just standing there, staring blankly at a plate of beef.
I wrapped my arms around his waist from behind, pressing my cheek against his broad back.
I could feel every muscle in his body tense up.
"Babe, why haven't you started yet?" I teased, rubbing against his back deliberately.
Liam's voice was low and husky, thick with barely contained desire. "Isabel, quit messing around."
He spun around, planted his hands on the counter, and boxed me in with his arms.
He looked down at me, his eyes burning with a dark intensity I couldn't decipher.
It was the gaze of a beast locking onto its prey.
My heart did a flip. Shit, did I just play with fire and get myself burned?
He leaned in, his breath fanning softly across my face.
"Did I really cook for you a lot before?" he asked.
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to nod. "Y-Yeah."
He let out a low, husky laugh that sent a shiver down my spine.
He gripped my chin, his thumb tracing slowly over my lips.
"So, how did you used to reward me?" Liam asked.
I stared at his ridiculously handsome face, so close I could feel his breath, and my mind went completely blank.
Seriously, why did his flirting skills get better after losing his memory?
Liam had me pinned against the counter, and my heart was beating so fast it felt like it was about to leap out of my throat.
He'd never been this bold with me before.
In the past, he was basically a workaholic. All he ever did was work.
"Come on, tell me. How did you reward me?" he pressed, leaning in even closer until our noses were almost touching.
I steeled myself. Well, since I'd already lied this much, I might as well go all the way.
"Back then..." I drawled, my hand slowly sliding up his shoulder, my fingertips tracing lazy circles on the back of his neck. "After you finished cooking, you'd always ask me for a kiss."
His gaze sharpened, eyes narrowing in an instant.
His breathing quickened, chest heaving with every breath.
He suddenly pulled me closer, his grip on my waist tightening.
His strength was unreal. He picked me up with one hand and set me on the counter like I weighed nothing.
I gasped, instinctively wrapping my arms around his neck.
Now he had to tilt his head up to look at me, while I looked down at him.
"Begged you to kiss me?" he echoed, his voice so hoarse it barely sounded like him.
He was staring hungrily at my lips, his throat working as he swallowed hard.
I could feel the heat rolling off him, like he was about to melt me into a puddle.
"Yeah, you were totally obsessed with me." I kept making stuff up. "Sometimes, if I didn't kiss you, you'd even throw a little tantrum."
Liam gave a wry chuckle, but there was a softness in his smile, a hint of indulgence I was too flustered to catch.
"So, am I not doing my job as your boyfriend right now?" Liam teased.
Before I could react, he suddenly leaned in, closing the distance between us.
This wasn't a gentle, fleeting kiss.
It was like a volcano that had been building pressure for ages, finally erupting all at once.
His kiss left me totally dazed, like my brain was going off with a thousand fireworks.
No way. How was he still a pro at this even with amnesia?
Right when I thought I was gonna pass out, he finally let me go.
His forehead rested against mine as he gulped for air.
His eyes were bloodshot, filled with a raw, barely contained desire.
"Isabel," he said, his voice so tender it could make anyone's heart flutter.
"Yeah?" I mumbled, totally out of it.
"I'll get better soon," he promised, his gaze intense. "I'll make up for those three years we missed out on."
A wave of guilt suddenly washed over me.
If he ever found out I'd been lying to him, would he snap and kill me?
But looking at his face, overflowing with tenderness, I couldn't help but let myself get lost in him all over again.
Who cared what would happen in the future? I'd just enjoy the ride while I could.
I gave his rock-hard abs a cheeky squeeze and let out a mischievous laugh. "You'll have to work hard then, babe."
