Chapter 1
After a car accident landed me in the hospital, I suddenly felt like teasing my boyfriend.
"Who are you?" I asked.
Watching his stunned expression, I'm about to laugh.
But then Lucien Vance suddenly pointed at his buddy Adrian Hayes and said, "Hey, I'm your boyfriend's friend, and that's your boyfriend, Adrian."
I froze up.
Adrian stepped forward, grinning. "Yeah, I'm your boyfriend."
I gave him a small smile. "Then take me home."
*****
Adrian took me home.
He told me this was where I'd always lived.
I glanced around at the place. There wasn't a single sign I'd ever lived here. Still, I just nodded and played along, acting clueless just like Adrian.
I took a nap in his bed, and when I got up to grab some water, I overheard voices coming from the living room.
"Adrian, help a bro out and play Sophia's boyfriend for a bit," Lucien said.
"What if she suddenly remembers everything?" Adrian asked.
He replied, "If she gets mad when her memory comes back, I'll just sweet-talk her. She's way too into me to really walk away.
"Honestly, we've been together since college, and I'm just getting bored. I might as well use this chance to take a break and mess around a bit."
"So you really did get together with Serena Moreau, huh? Now you're just looking for an excuse to hang out with her," Adrian teased.
Lucien shrugged, "Glad you noticed. But honestly, I still love Sophia more.
"Just don't try anything with her while she's at your place, okay?
"But out of all my friends, I trust you the most. You've never been into Sophia anyway."
I backed away barefoot, deliberately making some noise at the door before heading back into the living room.
Adrian heard the commotion, quickly ended the call, and came over.
"The floor's cold. Why are you barefoot?" he said.
He rushed over, picked me up bridal style, and gently set me down on the couch.
"I'm thirsty," I said.
I couldn't even find where the water was.
"I'll get you some water," Adrian responded.
He went off to pour me a glass.
He sat down beside me, watching me drink. "Are you feeling okay? Anything else bothering you?"
I shook my head.
He reached out, brushed my messy hair back, and softly kissed my forehead.
My gaze faltered for a moment. I'd just overheard Lucien telling him not to get close to me.
I always figured Adrian hated me too.
But now, when he leaned in and kissed me on the lips, I quickly turned my head away.
He just brushed my cheek like it was no big deal. "It's fine if you don't remember. We'll take things slow, and you can get used to me again."
Looks like Adrian isn't being straight with his own friend either.
When Adrian brought me into the private room, the place was already lively and packed.
A bunch of A-List Boys instantly fell silent when they saw me walk in, and every single one of them turned their eyes to Lucien.
"Hey, Sophia! Do you remember me? I'm Serena, your college roommate," Serena greeted me enthusiastically from her seat next to Lucien.
Adrian led me over and helped me sit down. I glanced at her and shook my head. "Sorry, I don't remember."
"That's okay, we can all just get to know each other again," Serena replied with a friendly smile.
As she spoke, Serena slipped her arm through Lucien's and snuggled up against his shoulder, looking all lovey-dovey.
My former roommate turned friend was clinging to Lucien like she owned him, her eyes full of smug satisfaction, clearly loving the fact that I'd lost my memory and couldn't do a thing about it.
Lucien, meanwhile, seemed to be enjoying the thrill of getting cozy with another woman right in front of me.
"Yeah, isn't it awesome? Both your besties are dating guys from our circle," one of the guys joked.
"You can all hang out together like always, memory or no memory, nothing's really changed," another teased.
The rest of the crew just exchanged knowing looks, clearly getting a kick out of watching someone get played and humiliated right in front of everyone.
