Evan didn't leave.

On the morning of the fourth day, I pushed open the cabin door and saw him sitting on the stone steps at the entrance, his back to me, shoulders covered in dew.

He'd been sitting there all night.

When he heard the door open, Evan slowly turned around. The face that once made all the girls in the sect fall for him was now gaunt and weary.
