Chapter 4
Days went by, and Adam spoiled me to an absurd degree.
In the pack, he was the cold and aloof Alpha, but whenever he saw me, his icy demeanor would instantly melt.
At home, he was the ultimate househusband. Laundry, cooking, you name it, he did it all. He even took care of my nails.
I got used to this life, and found myself dreading the day Adam might remember everything.
If he ever recovered, would all of this just vanish?
One day, I was lounging on the couch, watching TV, when Adam suddenly walked over, holding a delicate little box.
He dropped to one knee, his eyes burning with devotion and passion.
"Ren, will you be my mate?" he asked.
Inside the box lay a massive pink diamond, shimmering under the light, its glow almost hypnotic.
I froze, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it might leap out of my chest.
"Adam, you..." I stammered.
"Even though I haven't gotten my memories back, I know for sure. You're the one I want to protect for the rest of my life," he said.
His voice was deep and unwavering, each word landing straight in my heart.
I looked at him, my eyes suddenly misting over.
I was such a jerk.
After all the lies I told him, he still gave me every bit of his heart. Guilt twisted inside me.
"Yes," I whispered.
I barely recognized my own voice.
In that moment, I made up my mind. Even if he got his memories back someday and wanted to break our mate bond, or hit me with the silver punishment, I'd take it, no matter what.
At least right now, I really wanted to be his mate.
Adam was over the moon. His hands trembled as he slipped the ring onto my finger, then he pulled me into a tight hug.
"Renee, thank you. Thank you for being willing to be my mate, even though I'm such a fool," Adam said softly.
I buried my face in his chest and mumbled, "You're not a fool. You're the smartest guy in the world."
Before long, we made it official at the Witness Hall and got our bond certificate.
On the day we became mates, Adam was grinning from ear to ear like a kid on Christmas. He snapped a ton of photos with our bond certificate and posted them all over Facebook.
His Facebook post was simple: [Just mated. I love her.]
For a while, the whole Blackwood Pack territory was buzzing with excitement.
Alpha of the Blackwood Pack's sudden mate reveal dominated the trending topics for a whole week.
And just like that, I was officially the Luna of the Blackwood Pack.
Life as Adam's mate was even sweeter than I'd ever imagined.
Adam seemed to have completely let loose, coming up with new ways to flirt with me every single day.
Every morning, he'd wake me up with a deep kiss.
Every night, he couldn't keep his hands off me, always finding new ways to get intimate.
Even though he still looked all innocent, in bed, he was crazy passionate, like a man possessed.
He loved watching me plead with him, loved seeing me completely lose myself for him.
"Renee, say you love me," he murmured, his voice husky and full of desire.
He sank his teeth into my shoulder, his tone sending shivers down my spine.
I breathed out, barely coherent, "I love you... I love you the most, Adam."
Hearing that, his touch became even more tender, but he just held me tighter, refusing to let me go.
I always felt like I'd fallen into a sweet trap, and honestly, I had no intention of ever escaping.
Until one day, my bestie Amelia called me.
"Ren, is Adam still not back to normal?" she asked.
I glanced at Adam, who was crouched down, tying my shoelaces for me, and smiled. "Nope, he's still the same."
"Wow, you really hit the jackpot," Amelia teased. "But you better watch out. If he suddenly gets his memories back and finds out you've been lying to him, you're in for it."
My heart skipped a beat, and my smile froze on my face.
"I don't think that'll happen," I said, trying to sound casual.
After hanging up, I glanced at Adam, a weird sense of unease creeping in.
"What's wrong?" Adam looked up at me, worry written all over his face.
"It's nothing," I said, forcing a smile. "I just feel like things are really good right now."
Adam grinned, pulled my hand over, and pressed a gentle kiss to the back of it.
"It's always going to be this good, I promise," he murmured.
His eyes were so deep, and for a moment, I thought I caught a glimpse of something sly in them.
Maybe I was seeing things.
Yeah, I was probably just overthinking it.
Adam's birthday was around the corner.
I wanted to do something special for him.
After a lot of brainstorming, I finally decided to bake him a cake myself and pick out a gift that would really blow him away.
On his birthday, I sent Adam off to the Blackwood Pack house early, so I could work on his surprise all by myself at home.
But I totally overestimated my cooking skills.
The kitchen was a disaster zone, and the cake collapsed into a sad, lopsided mess.
Just as I was feeling totally defeated, the doorbell rang.
It was Adam's brother, Dario Blackwood.
He came in holding a bottle of red wine, and when he saw the state of the kitchen, he couldn't help but burst out laughing.
"Renee, are you trying to murder your mate or something?" he joked.
I shot him a glare. "Shut your mouth. I'm just showing my love here."
Dario's smile faded, his expression turning serious as he looked at me with mixed emotions.
"Renee, are you really planning to keep lying to him forever?" he asked.
I froze. "What do you mean?"
Dario sighed, giving me a look. "Adam's always been calculating, even when we were kids. You really think he'd suddenly turn clueless like that?"
My heart skipped a beat.
"Are you saying he's playing dumb?" I whispered, barely able to get the words out.
