Chapter 3
In another operating room, the red light was blinding.
William Hancock ripped off his blood-soaked gloves and slammed them onto the tray.
"Where's that bastard Andy?" he shouted.
His eyes were bloodshot as he grabbed the head nurse who had walked in.
The head nurse trembled in fear. "Dr. Covington is in the VIP ward. Ms. Bishop said she felt dizzy, so Dr. Covington is taking care of her."
William sneered, "Dizzy?"
He let out a cold, mocking laugh.
"We've got two lives on the line here, and he's over there acting all romantic over a minor scrape?" William spat.
Flat on the hospital bed, an oxygen mask pressed over my face, my mind floated in and out of blackness.
The anesthesia was still doing its thing, but somehow, I could catch bits and pieces of the chaos swirling around me.
The machines kept beeping, every sound like a timer ticking away what was left of my life.
"The patient barely has the will to live."
"Her blood pressure keeps dropping!"
"I'm afraid we can't save the baby."
Half-conscious, I seemed to see Andy's back as he walked away, so determined.
He did it in my previous life, and again this time.
Every single time, I was always the one he chose to abandon.
"Andy..." I murmured unconsciously.
I unconsciously murmured his name, a single tear slipping from the corner of my eye and soaking into my hair.
Since he didn't want our child and me, I would give him what he wanted.
I would disappear from his world for good.
Inside the VIP ward, Andy stared at his phone, his frown deepening by the second.
Two hours had passed.
Chelsea still hadn't replied.
Back then, even if she was burning up with a fever, Chelsea would drag herself out of bed to make him some porridge and apologize whenever he was upset.
Andy wondered what was going on with Chelsea today.
"Andy, maybe you should go see Chelsea," Unity said, lying on the hospital bed.
She was munching on the apple Andy had peeled for her, her voice dripping with fake concern.
Unity said, "I know she always gives me a hard time, but she's not a bad person. She probably loves you so much she can't handle you treating me well."
Andy scoffed and slammed the fruit knife hard onto the table.
He spat, "Love? Please. That's her being possessive and selfish.
"She knows you have a bleeding disorder, but still keeps picking fights with you. Women like her are spoiled because people let them get away with it."
Even so, he got up anyway, yanking at his tie, clearly annoyed.
"I'm going to the accident scene," Andy said.
Unity's eyes flashed, and she quickly tugged at his sleeve.
"Andy, I'm scared. Please don't leave," she pleaded.
Andy looked at her helpless expression, sighed, and was about to sit down.
Then, his phone rang.
It was a call from the traffic police.
"Are you a relative of the owner of the car with license plate number 88888?" the officer asked.
Andy's heart skipped a beat. "Yeah, that's me."
The officer said, "We've finished clearing the scene. In the wreckage of the driver's seat, we found some belongings, and a charred body.
"It's too badly burned to identify, so we need you to come in and confirm the identity."
A loud buzz echoed in Andy's mind, leaving him completely blank.
His phone slipped from his hand and hit the floor.
The screen shattered, like his heart, splintered and frantic.
Andy thought that it was impossible.
Chelsea was not some helpless kid. He felt that she could definitely get out.
He felt that she was definitely messing with him.
Andy believed that she was probably in cahoots with the cops, putting on another show for him.
