Chapter 1
"Sherlyn, we've lost two babies, but if you take good care of yourself, we can still try again," my husband, Kylan Lane, said softly.
I looked at Kylan, who once adored me. Right now, he felt like a complete stranger.
He kept his voice low, persuasive. "I asked a doctor friend to bring you some vitamins. Take them and get some rest."
I forced down the surge of emotions inside and replied calmly, "Just leave them here. I'll take them later."
I knew he didn't want me to have his child again. A woman he'd just met had changed his mind.
Down the hospital corridor, he slipped two bottles into his coat, vitamins in one hand, hormones in the other.
Then he had someone quietly swap their labels.
The vitamins went to Rachel Miller, who curled against his chest. Meanwhile, the hormones landed in front of me.
The man who once swore he'd burn the world for me had already fallen for someone else.
He was ready to scorch me to keep her safe.

I staggered out of the hospital, feeling completely lost. As I wandered aimlessly down the street, a few girls passing by stopped in their tracks, their faces full of surprise. Then, they looked at me with pure envy.
"Hey, isn't that Kylan's wife? The Best Actor's wife?" one of them whispered.
"It's her. She's even more stunning in person. I heard that Kylan is totally devoted to his wife. At the last awards, he made the ultimate confession that he'd give up his entire career for her. Can you believe it?" the other girl said.
"Totally! And he even started a charity foundation in her name. If I could have a husband like that, I'd be set for life," a third girl chimed in.
Back then, hearing stuff like that would've made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I really thought I'd hit the jackpot marrying him.
But now, those words just dripped with irony.
The man who used to treat me like a princess wasn't just cheating on me. He'd even gotten that other woman pregnant.
Clutching the hospital report in my hand, I stood frozen, completely dazed. The world spun around me, and before I knew it, everything went black.
"Sherry!" Right before I blacked out, I heard a familiar voice calling out to me. Through the blur, I could just make out Kylan rushing toward me.

When I came to again, I found myself lying in a hospital bed.
The doctor stood deferentially beside Kylan, giving him a careful rundown of my situation.
"Mrs. Lane, you just fainted because your emotions were too overwhelming. It's nothing serious," the doctor said.
Kylan's brows furrowed, a hint of confusion and unease flickering in his eyes. "She's always got someone taking care of her. How did this happen out of nowhere?"
He was in mid-sentence when he saw I was awake. He turned to me slowly, and for a split second, there was a flicker of panic and guilt in his eyes.
But in the blink of an eye, he slipped back into his usual gentle, caring self and rushed to my side, concern written all over his face.
"Sherry, why didn't you tell me you were coming to the hospital today? I was actually here to grab some vitamins for you. Didn't you see me earlier?" he asked.
I could hear the probing and the attempt to cover things up in his voice, but I just didn't have the energy to confront him anymore.
I shook my head, feeling completely numb, and simply let him wrap his arms around me.
"From now on, don't go out alone. If you need anything, just have the maid help you out. Your health isn't great right now, so you really need to look after yourself," he said.
His tone was a mix of worry and gentle scolding.
Then he took the nutritious meal from the maid, scooped up a spoonful, blew on it to cool it down, and held it out for me.
"I asked the chef to make this special meal for you. It's full of vitamins and minerals, perfect for helping you recover. Eat some while it's still warm," he said.
I stayed silent, eating the food he fed me like a robot, barely tasting anything.
Just for a moment, I thought I saw the Kylan who used to adore me with every look.
But the next second, my heart plunged into an icy pit as I watched him twist open the bottle he'd had relabeled, pour the pills into his palm, and bring them right to my mouth.
"Sherry, these are the vitamins I picked up for you today. They're good for your health," he said.
He smiled at me, as if he genuinely had my best interests at heart.
