Chapter 5

By the next morning, Nathan had called seventeen times.

The first few messages were short.

"Where are you?"

"Answer your phone."

Then they became:

"What was that note on the table supposed to mean?"

"Mom and Leah both saw it. You made me look like an idiot."

The last one came at 1:46 a.m.

"Fine, take some time to calm down. Come home tomorrow so we can talk this through."

After breakfast at the hotel, I replied:

"I'm going to stay with Dad. We'll live apart for a while. Text me if there's anything necessary to discuss."
