Chapter 4
Series 1 Chapter 4
That afternoon, my attorney sent the divorce agreement.
I read every page.
Then I signed my name.
Eleanor Sinclair.
For five years, that name had meant marriage.
By tomorrow, it would mean something else.
My phone vibrated.
A message from Camille.
I’m sorry yesterday became uncomfortable. I asked Dominic again if I should move rooms, but he said there was no reason. I hope you know I would never intentionally disrespect your marriage.
I read it twice.
Camille had offered to move.
Dominic had made her stay.
That was all I needed to know.
The next morning, I returned to the suite.
Dominic was already dressed.
Camille stood near the window, reviewing something on her tablet.
I placed a folder on the table in front of him.
“I need your signature.”
Dominic glanced at it.
“What is it?”
“Something you should read carefully.”
The folder contained four sets of documents.
The first two were ordinary enough—joint account authorization and several property arrangements that needed to be updated before we left Europe.
Dominic skimmed them, then pushed the folder toward me.
“You’ve handled this kind of thing for years. Just show me where to sign.”
I looked at him.
“There’s more than routine paperwork in there. You should read everything.”
He barely glanced up.
“If there were anything important, you would tell me.”
Before I could answer, Camille looked up from her tablet.
“The captain needs confirmation for tomorrow’s departure.”
Dominic uncapped his pen.
“Where do I sign?”
I marked the first tab.
He signed.
Then the second.
By the time he reached the final document, he was already listening to Camille explain tomorrow’s route.
“The eastern ridge should be clear in the morning,” she said. “If we leave later, we might get an even better view.”
Dominic turned another page.
“Then move the departure.”
Camille’s eyes dropped to the document.
Her voice stopped.
I followed her gaze.
DIVORCE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT
For one second, she simply stared at it.
Then she looked at me.
She knew.
All she had to do was tell Dominic to look down.
Instead, she turned back to him.
“Should I confirm the later slot?”
“Yes.”
The tip of Dominic’s pen touched the signature line beneath the words DIVORCE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT.
