Chapter 2
In that instant, it felt like a thunderbolt had struck me.
I couldn't believe Justin would go this far for Lily even if it meant getting rid of our baby.
"Go tell Justin I won't agree to this," I said, my voice trembling with anger and disbelief.
Just as I finished speaking, Justin showed up at the door with a frosty look, Lily trailing right behind him.
"Grace, stop making a scene. Wasn't this settled already?" he snapped.
Lily clung to Justin's arm, putting on a weak act. "Justin, don't blame Grace. I'm really not in a rush. I can wait a little longer."
She started coughing.
Before she could finish, her eyes rolled back, and she fainted.
"Lily! Pin her down. Hurry, rush her into surgery. Lily's about to die!" Justin shouted, his voice frantic.
He called over two more nurses to restrain me, pinning me to the bed.
"Justin, how could you?" I cried out, my voice trembling with disbelief and anger.
He held Lily in his arms, casting a cold glare at me.
"Lily can't wait any longer, Grace. Don't worry. I'll make it up to you after she's safe," he said coldly.
Make it up to me?
Who the hell wanted anything from him?
Couldn't he see Lily was perfectly fine? She was just faking it on purpose.
She used the same trick on him twice, and both times, he fell for it.
The two nurses restrained me and wheeled me into the operating room.
Soon after, Justin walked in.
When I looked at his cold and ruthless face, my eyes stung and welled up with tears. Holding on to the last bit of hope, I spoke up.
"Justin, this is the baby you've been longing for. Even a tiger won't eat its own cub. How can you be so cruel? Do you have no humanity left?" I cried out, my voice trembling with disbelief and pain.
"Grace, we can have another child, but Lily only has one life!" he snapped, his tone cold and unyielding.
"Besides, if Lily hadn't saved me back then, she wouldn't have needed a kidney transplant now!" he added, his voice heavy with urgency and guilt.
What? I was the one who saved him back then. How did it become Lily?
Was Lily even really sick?
I couldn't believe Justin was truly blind to it. He'd believe anything Lily said, no matter how false, just because it came from her.
I glared at Justin, my voice icy with fury. "Justin, if you go through with this today, you'll regret it for the rest of your life!"
The moment I finished, the softness in Justin's eyes vanished, replaced instantly by a cold, ruthless glare.
"Grace, don't make me repeat myself again," he said coldly.
"The pregnancy ends now," he added.
Justin turned to the nurses behind him. "What are you waiting for?"
As soon as he finished speaking, a nurse rushed forward and forced the anesthesia into my vein.
Before long, my vision blurred, and I started losing consciousness.
Just before my consciousness slipped away, I heard Justin's cold voice giving orders. "Start the D&C immediately. After that, use strong medication to make sure the kidney transplant goes smoothly."
Justin didn't just order to destroy our baby.
He took my last kidney like it was nothing.
He only had eyes and heart for Lily. What did we even mean to him—me and the baby still growing inside me?
Were we just sacrifices to their so-called love?
I was supposed to be under general anesthesia, but instead of slipping into unconsciousness, I could vividly feel the scalpel cutting into my abdomen.
Drifting in a fog between consciousness and oblivion, I caught fragments of Justin and the doctor's conversation.
"How is it possible? Grace only has one kidney left?" the doctor exclaimed, disbelief heavy in his voice.
"Doctor, what do we do now? Should we inform Mr. Sterling?" a nurse asked, her voice trembling.
"Go tell him," the doctor said.
The nurse stepped out briefly, then came back quickly.
"Doctor, Mr. Sterling said that was nonsense. He insists Mrs. Sterling can't possibly have just one kidney," the nurse reported.
"He also said that even if she does, we still have to save Ms. Warren," she added.
At that moment, my heart shattered completely.
Justin, if I got another chance at life, I swear I wouldn't meet you again—not in this lifetime, nor in the next!
