Chapter 3

The night sky over Rome was always shrouded in the stench of blood.
The top-tier surgeon who performed Angelina's transplant was found dead in his highly secure underground panic room.
A single bullet through the forehead.
Next, the three Capos who handled the explosion cover-up met bizarre ends.
One drowned in his bathtub. One drove off a cliff. One had his throat slit in a crowded bar.
Clean, efficient. Zero evidence.
Panic swept through the Mafia family.
Carlos was losing his mind, convinced a rival Sicilian family was making a move. He pulled all his elites back to heavily guard the estate.
And right in the middle of this chaos, Angelina ran into his study, crying, with bloody gauze wrapped around her arm.
Ten minutes later, my bedroom door was kicked open.
I was sitting by the window, wiping the dust off a photo of Mia.
Carlos stormed in, furious.
"Isabella! Are you out of your fucking mind?!"
"Angelina is so weak right now, and you actually attacked her? You threatened to kill her?"
"She just had major surgery! There's a limit to your grief!"
I slowly looked up at the man I had loved for seven years.
His handsome face was twisted with impatience and heartache for another woman.
I stood up and looked him dead in the eye.
"Weak? With my daughter's healthy heart beating in her chest, how exactly is she weak?"
Carlos flinched. His pupils shrank to pinpricks.
"What... what nonsense are you talking about?"
He instinctively took a half-step back, his eyes darting away.
"Still playing dumb, Carlos?" I stepped toward him.
"The doctor confessed everything before he died."
"You staged the explosion. Mia didn't die in the blast. She died on the operating table."
"You gutted your own daughter to save that whore!"
All the color drained from Carlos's face.
"It was you..."
He stumbled back, hitting the doorframe.
But a few seconds later, the panic faded. It was replaced by the cold, ruthless arrogance of a Mafia Don.
"Fine. Since you know, there's no point hiding it."
"I'm sad Mia died too, but nothing changes that now."
"Angelina is more important to me. She brings me greater benefits."
He looked me up and down with utter contempt.
"And you, Isabella? You're just a woman living off my dime. Don't even dream of revenge. You're completely out of your league."
I looked at his arrogant face and spoke with absolute clarity.
"Carlos, I'm going to make you pay in blood."
"I will rip that heart out with my own hands, and I will watch your empire burn to the ground."
"Crazy bitch," Carlos muttered in disgust.
Tomorrow was The Commission assembly. He couldn't afford any mistakes at a time like this.
"Guards!"
Four armed men rushed in.
"Madam has lost her mind. Lock her in this room. No one lets her out without my direct order!"
The heavy lock clicked into place outside.
Carlos's voice seeped through the thick wood.
"Tomorrow is The Commission assembly. Angelina will take your place as the lady of this family."
"But don't worry. As long as you behave, I won't let her touch you."
"Otherwise, don't blame me if I hand you over to the boys and let them teach you a lesson."
I stood in front of the locked door, a cold smile forming on my lips.
Is that so? Let's see who teaches who a lesson tomorrow.
