Chapter 5
That day, I left Jason so embarrassed he was completely speechless.
When he walked out, his legs were shaking.
I didn't give him another thought. Slept like a baby, then hopped on a plane overseas the next day.
Life abroad was as easy as I'd imagined.
My dad had already set me up with a house and a car. I'd been learning the language since I was a kid, and traveling overseas was nothing new to me. So moving to a new country didn't faze me at all.
Nathan was a laid-back rich kid who loved doing everything except studying. Hanging out with him was always a blast.
Too bad there was no spark between us. We tried dating for a while, but it fizzled out.
Not long after, he started dating a girl who was working her way through school overseas.
I heard he was totally head over heels for her, and he was always by her side.
I tried to give him some friendly advice. "You know, your values are pretty much set in stone. Falling in love is easy, but sticking together? That's the real challenge. "
Nathan shot back, "Why are you sounding like my mom? I'm telling you, I'm head over heels for Chloe, and I'm willing to bend over backwards for her. "
Alright, I'll stop trying to talk sense into him. Guess I'll sit back and watch him crash and burn.
William would occasionally fill me in on what was happening back home.
He told me that after I went abroad, Jason was so shocked he almost flipped out in the teacher's office.
When he found out I was studying overseas, he sat there, looking all gloomy for ages. Then he started hitting the books like crazy, even reading while he walked.
Jason's uncle was a total jerk. Whenever the school handed out scholarships, he'd take them all for himself, leaving Jason with nothing.
Jason was so broke he couldn't even afford a decent meal. He had to juggle classes and part-time jobs, barely keeping up. More than once, he nearly collapsed in the cafeteria from exhaustion.
Still, luck was on his side, he managed to get into his dream university after all.
Once he settled into Prime University and got his coursework under control, he started exploring entrepreneurship.
William said, "Honestly, Jason's pretty amazing. He took out a loan of roughly 330,000 dollars to launch his business, and now he's bringing in tens of thousands a month in revenue. "
Jason was already a force to be reckoned with in his previous life. Most of the time, I connected him with some big opportunities that helped his business level up, but honestly, the real credit goes to him.
"Anna's always glued to him. People say they're practically inseparable, but Jason keeps saying she's not his girlfriend, " William added.
I wasn't really interested in all that drama. As long as Jason wasn't struggling anymore, that was enough for me. We were husband and wife once, but we ended things on good terms, no hard feelings.
After that, I stopped gossiping about him. Once I hit my junior year and had a bit more free time, I started taking on some company projects.
Unlike regular folks trying to start a business, us trust fund kids mostly help each other out with resources and connections.
Since Nathan was already taken, a strategic marriage with him was out of the question. But my dad still wanted to deepen our business ties with the Grant Family, so he started eyeing Andrew instead.
He said, "Sweetheart, I talked to him, and he's open to it.
"Andrew Grant's five years older than you, but he's seriously impressive. He skipped grades as a kid, and after taking over Grant Enterprises, he grew the company threefold.
"He's willing to meet you and see how things go. Want to give it a shot? "
I remembered Andrew, the Grant Family's eldest son, who was even more handsome than Jason. Back then, I never dared to dream about someone so out of this world, so I settled for someone who kind of resembled him and was actually within reach.
Turns out, after all that, the guy who seemed untouchable is actually mine now.
