Chapter 4
Sometimes, hugging and companionship meant more to your soul than any physical desire ever could.
Serena paused slightly and shook her head apologetically at her colleague.
She said, "I most likely won't marry Blake in the future.
"And I probably won't be staying in this city either. Goodbye."
In an instant, her colleague's expression shifted.
Looked like they wanted to ask something, but when they noticed Serena's slightly rounded belly, they didn't say anything.
They just wished Serena well and hoped she'd have a happy future.
After that, Serena went to the hospital alone to make an appointment for an abortion.
When she stood outside the operating room, she suddenly realized that she was not as brave as she had imagined.
She still trembled, still was scared, still felt terrified.
Helplessness and despair drowned her like a tide.
But she couldn't just put everything on Ethan's shoulders. It was too unfair to him.
She didn't tell Ethan that she was going to have an abortion because she wanted to resolve these problems on her own.
This was something that belonged to her and Blake.
The doctor sensed her fear and gently advised her, "If you're really unsure about the abortion, you can discuss it with your partner."
Serena closed her eyes, then stood up and finalized the details with the doctor. She scheduled the surgery for three days from now.
She wanted to give herself a little more time to calm herself down. And, say goodbye to this baby.
When Serena returned home, it was time for dinner.
There were still soft voices coming from the kitchen.
Serena walked into the kitchen, only to find that Blake and Chloe were having dinner.
She glanced at it and realized that there was only a meal for two on the table.
She thought, 'Why does this house stop having a place for me?'
She suddenly remembered that the house belonged to Blake.
After living there for three years, she almost forgot.
She didn't make a fuss or say anything. She just poured a glass of warm water and walked out of the kitchen quietly.
After listening to Blake's explanation, Chloe didn't really have any hard feelings toward Serena, who was Blake's cousin.
Chloe stood up awkwardly and said to Serena, "Serena, take a seat. I'll cook some noodles for you!"
Then she turned to Blake and whispered, "You didn't know she was coming back for dinner?
"Why didn't you cook any for her? I'm going to beat you up!"
Blake probably thought Serena would be sensible enough to leave enough space for the two of them and not make things so awkward.
If it were normal, Serena would not ignore such a small detail.
But she was a little scared by the abortion surgery today.
Serena instinctively looked at Blake, catching his annoyed, handsome face.
An inexplicable irritation surged up.
She replied coldly, "No need. I already ordered takeout."
Then she turned and went back to her own room.
It was peak delivery time, so by the time Serena got her takeout, it was already unappetizing and cold.
She was too exhausted to cook. She had to swallow the cold noodles.
Without eating a few mouthfuls, nausea hit her hard. Then she rushed to the bathroom and vomited uncontrollably.
She kept vomiting until there was nothing left but bile.
The commotion was so loud that it quickly caught Blake and Chloe's attention.
Blake hurriedly strode over to support her and soothe her back.
But those cold noodles were like a fuse, completely causing her pregnancy discomfort.
She kept retching and vomiting.
Even Chloe was slightly confused.
"Why are you so sick? If you're not pregnant, you should go see a doctor," she said.
Both Serena and Blake were stunned in the bathroom.
The pain in Blake's eyes was immediately replaced by complaints.
He even whispered uneasily, "Serena, didn't you promise me to go to the abortion? Why haven't you gone?
"You're not going to give birth to this baby, are you?"
Serena looked up at him with a pale face and suddenly let out a dry, bitter laugh.
She slowly stood up, turned on the faucet, splashing some water on her face.
Looking at Blake's reflection in the mirror, she forced a bitter smile.
Finally, she replied in a raspy voice, "I'm not planning to."
Then, she noticed the ring on her index finger from the corner of her eye.
Without hesitation, she took it off, threw it into the toilet, flushing it away along with the bile.
Blake's eyes suddenly turned dark, and he stretched out his hand and gripped Serena tightly.
He softened his tone, coaxing her gently, "Don't worry, Serena. We'll have more kids someday. Don't be sad.
"We would also have other rings."
Serena struggled to break free, but Blake held her tight and didn't let her go.
When Chloe walked in, Blake still didn't let go. The tension in the air was so thick that Chloe felt completely strange.
Serena glanced at Chloe, then turned to warn Blake, "Don't force me, or I swear I've got plenty to say."
Blake couldn't ignore Chloe standing right there. In the end, he hesitated, but let go.
