I pointed at the net. "Isn't it obvious? That's my handiwork, paid by cold hard cash."

Javier massaged his brow and sighed. For the first time, there was something in his eyes besides suicide.

He said, "Why are you stopping me from jumping this time? Haven't you already gotten everything you wanted?"

He figured that no matter how much I wanted, he'd already given me everything I could possibly ask for. As far as that night went, he thought he'd more than paid his dues.

Now, he was flat broke. There was nothing left for him to offer me.
