Chapter 2
The crowd swarmed out.
I stood there, suddenly hit by a crushing wave of sadness.
This body was mourning before I even realized it.
According to the story, Richard and Evelyn did love the true heiress. They just didn't know how to express it.
One day, they'd be left sobbing over her lifeless body, overwhelmed with grief and regret.
They'd punish the fake heiress for all her lies, send her parents to prison, and avenge their own daughter's tragic death.
In the end, they'd become a wealthy family, spending the rest of their lives missing their daughter.
The real heiress endured all the pain from her family in silence, just to get a scrap of their cheap affection.
I wiped away the tears from this body and laughed out loud.
If love wasn't clear, it might as well not exist.
People who hurt others with their words weren't kind inside. They were as cold inside as they sounded.
The Hart family never even bothered to change their daughter's last name back. That already showed that they didn't care about her.
Suffering for a love that never existed? That was not worth it.
Not following the script, I didn't return to the cramped apartment the real heiress rented. Instead, I went straight up to the hospital rooftop.
Since the blood donation didn't kill me, maybe jumping off would.
The System picked up on my overwhelming urge to end it all and flashed a warning. [Host, you can't do anything self-destructive. If you do, your body in your original world will die.]
I ignored the warning, threw my arms open, and jumped without a second thought.
Good. Now both worlds could finally be at peace.
The bloody ending I imagined never happened.
Instead, a pair of strong hands grabbed my wrist, halting my fall.
I looked up and saw a handsome, aristocratic man glaring at me with a look of utter disdain.
He said, "Vivian said you've been causing trouble at the hospital all day, and you really pissed off Mom and Dad.
"So, you think just because you're a real Hart, you can control us now?
"Keep dreaming.
"Nobody in the Hart family cares whether you live or die."
It was Andrew Hart, my real brother.
According to the story, he spoiled Evelyn a lot.
Back when Evelyn was pregnant, Andrew was already stepping up as the big brother.
Every day, he'd sit by Evelyn's side, reading fairy tales to the baby growing inside.
He even made a princess-themed room himself, putting all his favorite toys in there for his unborn sister.
But right now, the one he spoiled was the fake heiress, Vivian. Not me, his real sister by blood.
And in the future, the sister he'd dote on would be a cold corpse, not the real, living me standing here.
My eyes didn't even flicker, as if I was staring at a total stranger. "If you don't care, then get lost."
Andrew's face turned stormy. He dragged me back onto the rooftop and slammed me down onto the rough concrete.
He snapped, "What the hell is wrong with you?
"Didn't you keep begging to come home, asking me to give you a shot?
"What, can't keep pretending anymore? Switching up your drama already?
"Nobody's gonna pity you for pulling these suicide stunts.
"If you really want to die, at least pick a remote place where nobody has to go out of their way to save you."
In the original story, the real heiress actually admired her brother.
She'd make pointless little crafts, hoping to please her brother, who was surrounded by luxury.
She'd even endure stomach pain while making him a comforting pot of soup.
But all she ever got in return was humiliation and ridicule.
I wasn't going to waste another bit of effort on Andrew.
I tuned out his ranting, spun around, and bolted for the stairs.
I came across a nurse with a cart, grabbed a pair of surgical scissors, and plunged them toward my chest.
The nurse turned white as a sheet.
I gave her a reassuring nod. "Don't be scared. I won't cause you any trouble. After I'm gone, this world will collapse anyway."
Before the scissors could even pierce my clothes, Andrew grabbed my hand again, his grip like iron.
He was breathing hard, and his expression was unreadable. "You really want to die?
"Then at least wait until you've outlived your usefulness!"
Andrew grabbed my hand and shoved me into a black luxury van.
After a jarring ride, I was taken to an abandoned warehouse.
The floor was littered with sex photos of Vivian.
Andrew's voice was chilling. "You had someone fake these photos of Vivian to ruin her name? Fine. I'll have you shoot for the real thing.
"We'll tell everyone you're the one in the original photos.
"Since you're about to die, you won't care about your reputation anymore, right?"
