We met up at a quiet café.

Hannah was way skinnier than she'd been back in high school, her hair now cut short, just a little makeup on her face.

She looked a lot more mature. But the way she kept glancing at me, all nervous and careful, like she was scared I'd see right through her, made it feel like she was hiding something.

I didn't bother with small talk. "Hannah," I said, "is there something you're not telling me?"
