I found out I was pregnant the same day Vincent Sterling dumped me. He tossed a bank card on the table. "Six hundred thousand dollars. Take it and go." I picked it up, pouting. "That's all?" That wouldn't even cover raising a kid till kindergarten, I thought. His hand, reaching for his cigarette case, stilled. "Fine," he said flatly. "I'll wire another four hundred thousand in a couple of days." Knowing when to quit, I smiled sweetly, packed my things, and left without a backward glance. A month later, cruising past the luxury boutiques in my Mercedes, I spotted him. Vincent Sterling, in a food delivery rider's uniform. "Hey, Mr. High Roller," I called out, rolling down my window without a shred of tact. "What's the deal? Shooting a reality show?" He looked me over, the car, the clothes, and sighed. "Truth is, I went bankrupt. A month ago. Couldn't afford you anymore. Was afraid you'd despise me for it, so I made you leave." I blinked, stunned. "What about your precious 'Selena'? Your perfect 'what-if' girl?" His expression softened with something like regret. "She came back. Didn't hold the bankruptcy against me. Said she'd stick by me, help me rebuild." A sharp, cold laugh escaped me. I slid my sunglasses on. "Well, congratulations. A match made in resilient, humble heaven." Before he could say another word, I hit the gas, leaving him standing there on the curb, his delivery helmet looking utterly ridiculous in the wind.
