Chapter 4
Outside the hospital, Emma was on the ground, her face pale. People around her kept urging her to stand up, but she cried and refused to get up.
Emma said, "Felicia's baby is gone. I know she must blame me.
"If I hadn't saved her back then, she probably would've kicked me out ages ago.
"Don't try to stop me. I'm staying right here until Felicia is willing to forgive me."
When Wally rushed over, his eyes were filled with pain for her. "No one's going to kick you out. Come on, get up. You're so weak right now."
Emma leaned her head on his shoulder, sobbing. "Wally, you're all I have left. I don't want to go abroad. They'll sell me off like I'm nothing.
"I'll apologize to Felicia. I don't care if she ever repays me. I want her to let me stay."
Wally said softly, patting her back to comfort her, "This isn't your fault. Felicia lost the baby because of her own health issues.
"You had nothing to do with it, so stop blaming yourself."
Felicia was helped to the door by a nurse.
Those words pierced her heart like needles, the pain so sharp it felt like she could barely breathe.
So, in Wally's eyes, they lost their baby because of her health conditions.
Everything was her fault, and he and Emma were completely blameless.
She clenched her fists, her whole body trembling uncontrollably.
"Ma'am, are you alright?" the nurse asked gently, concern in her voice.
The nurse's worried question made Emma, who was not far away, look over.
Emma immediately started sobbing and kowtowing. "Felicia, I'm sorry. I know I shouldn't have smoked, but I really couldn't control myself.
"After I got trapped in that fire trying to save you, I was traumatized, and that's why I have this problem now.
"I don't have parents. Wally's all I have left. I never wanted to take Wally away from you. I just don't want to be alone.
"If you hate me, you can hit me. Please don't make me leave."
Her words of grievance and sorrow echoed at the hospital entrance, tugging at the heartstrings of everyone who heard them.
Felicia stood there, silently watching Emma, her dark eyes brimming with scorn.
Felicia said, "Emma, aren't you exhausted from putting on this act all these years?
"Your so-called anger is because you can't stand me. Every date we had, you were always there, always showing up uninvited.
"Every anniversary, you and Wally would take off on some trip, leaving me alone at home."
Felicia's voice shook as she got more worked up. "You think I don't know? You've liked Wally for ages..."
Wally snapped, cutting her off, "Felicia, how can you talk like that? Emma's only in this mess because she risked everything to save us.
"The least we can do is repay her. It's the right thing to do."
Felicia was about to speak up again, but the crowd started siding with Emma.
"Yeah, she ended up like this because she saved you, and you still talk about her like that? Seriously, why can you so heartless?"
"Even if they're not blood siblings, they grew up together. Isn't this the classic wicked sister-in-law kicking out her sister-in-law?"
"Honestly, that girl should've never saved her. She lost her own baby, and now she's blaming her sister-in-law and trying to kick her out.
"Seriously, how shameless can you get?"
"I bet her baby didn't want a mom like her, so it decided to leave before it was even born."
All those nasty comments kept ringing in Felicia's ears. The nurse who'd been helping her quietly slipped away.
Now, everyone was staring at her like she was on trial.
It was like she was the real culprit, the one everyone wanted to blame.
But the truth was, she was the one who'd suffered the most.
She gripped the wall, biting her lip, trying to steady her shaky body.
"Felicia..." Emma was about to speak, but before she could get a word out, she collapsed completely.
"Emma!" Wally shouted.
Wally looked down at Emma, who'd fainted in his arms, his face falling. "Is this what you wanted?
"Emma didn't want to leave. Why did you have to keep cornering her like this?"
Felicia felt a sharp pain in her chest.
When she locked eyes with Wally, all she saw was icy indifference and outright disgust.
In the next moment, he slammed her to the ground.
"Wally..." she whispered.
She felt stabbing pain in her abdomen.
Blood slowly seeped out from beneath her. She looked up, tried to call out to Wally, but he was holding Emma in his arms, never once looking back at her.
Everyone around stared at her like she was nothing, not a single person stepping in to help.
"She's bleeding... should we do something?"
"What's the point in helping a woman like her? Her husband won't even look at her. Leave her. She brought this on herself."
Felicia scoffed.
She curled up on the ground, tears streaming down her cheeks, her numb eyes glinting with a mocking smile.
She felt that she deserved this since she didn't see the truth sooner.
She felt that she should've gotten out of this disgusting place a long time ago.
