Chapter 1
Olivia Bennett was wrapping up her day at the obstetrics clinic. Her last patient was a woman who was nine months pregnant.
The woman looked young and beautiful, barely in her early twenties, probably still a college student.
"Lie down, and I'll check you," Olivia said.
The woman lay down as told, her hand resting on her belly. Her face lit up with joy.
"Dr. Bennett, I had a check-up last week. But my husband and I got intimate, and he was a little too enthusiastic. I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable. He was a little worried, so he made me come in for another check," she explained.
"Emily Carter, right?" Olivia asked.
Olivia glanced down at the patient's file. When her eyes landed on the spouse section, her fingers froze. The name written there was Andrew Walker.
What a coincidence. Her husband's name was Andrew Walker, too.

"Is something wrong, Dr. Bennett?" Emily asked.
"Nothing," Olivia replied, shaking her head as she continued the check-up.
She thought it must be someone with the same name. She believed that Andrew was devoted to her. He'd never betray her.
They'd been married for five years, and Andrew had poured all his affection on her.
Whenever he sealed a business deal, the very first thing he'd do was buy her a gift.
He bought her cars, houses, and numerous pieces of jewelry, luxury bags, and clothes.
Every property he owned was registered under her name.
One year, during a road trip, they were hit by falling rocks. He shielded her with his body without a second thought.
She trembled with fear, but he held her tight, whispering that she didn't need to be afraid, that he'd never let anything happen to her.
He ended up in the ICU with serious injuries, while she only had a few scrapes.
Last year, she got pregnant, but it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy. After the painful procedure to remove the baby, her colleagues told her she'd probably never be able to have children again.
For someone who delivered babies for a living, being told she could never get pregnant herself was the hardest blow, undoubtedly.
When she was at her lowest, Andrew's mother forced him to divorce her, but he said, "Mom, my wife will only be Olivia. If you want me to divorce her, I'd rather die."
After that, Andrew's mother never brought up divorce or having kids again.
She'd tried IVF countless times, desperate to have a child, but every attempt ended in disappointment.
Andrew felt so bad for her that he said he didn't want kids anymore.
'No way could a man who loves me this much cheat on me,' Olivia thought.
After finishing the check-up, Olivia tossed her gloves into the trash. "You're all good. Remember to come in for your next appointment on time. Since you're in your third trimester, take it easy with sex. Don't overdo it."
'These young couples don't hold back,' Olivia thought. 'She's already in her third trimester, but she still has hickeys all over her.'
Thinking about herself and Andrew, Olivia sighed inwardly. IVF wore her out, and Andrew didn't want her to suffer anymore, so it had been ages since they last had sex.
Emily blushed and said, "It's my husband's fault. He says he wants to have sex with me whenever he sees me.
"Lately, he's been all over me every single day, and this afternoon was no exception. But honestly, he's way more gentle now that I'm pregnant. Before, we used to get a lot crazier."
"Is that so?" Olivia smiled. "By the way, Ms. Carter, you're a bit anemic. Let me write you a prescription for some iron pills. Are you here by yourself, or do you want your husband to come pick you up?"
"He's already outside. He never misses a check-up," Emily said. "Dr. Bennett, when you're expecting, your husband will fuss over you as mine does."
Olivia was stunned. A few days ago, she'd been at the hospital for another round of IVF. Andrew had promised to be there with her, but he was away on a business trip, and he still hadn't shown up.
Her phone buzzed. She glanced down to see a text from Andrew.
Andrew: [Hey, honey, I can't make it to the hospital to pick you up today. Still stuck on this business trip. I'll come to you as soon as I'm done. Love you.]
Olivia swallowed her disappointment and put her phone away. "Go ahead and let him in."
Emily called out to the door, "Honey, come get me. I feel so dizzy."
The door swung open, and a tall figure stepped in, his silhouette familiar to Olivia as he walked in against the light.
"Sorry, babe. I'll be gentler next time, okay?" the man said, automatically pulling Emily into his arms after he entered.
Olivia shot the man a glance, and he turned his gaze toward her.
The moment their eyes met, it was as if time froze.
"Honey?" Olivia let out a mocking laugh, her eyes starting to fill with tears.
'So it is Andrew, the one who was supposed to be on a business trip abroad. He cheated on me, and he already has a child with her,' Olivia thought, her heart broken.
Her body swayed, and she gripped the table beside her, barely managing to stay upright.
"Who are you calling my husband?" Emily snapped immediately. "Dr. Bennett, aren't you a bit too old to be chasing after my man? I know my husband is good-looking and charming, but you can't call him 'honey' right in front of me. That's too brazen."
Every time Emily was out with Andrew, other women would always try to flirt with him.
Thinking Olivia was another one of those women, Emily slapped her across the face. "Shameless. Someone like you shouldn't be a doctor. I will report you for hitting on my husband."
Olivia wasn't someone who'd sit back and take it. If one hit her, she'd hit right back. "Get your facts straight. Who's chasing whose husband here?"
Emily screamed the instant Olivia's hand connected with her cheek.
"How dare you hit me, you homewrecker. I'll kill you," Emily shrieked, charging at Olivia, her hands flailing. Her sharp nails dug deep, leaving bloody marks across Olivia's face.
Olivia tried to fight back, but before her hand could touch Emily, Andrew clamped down on her wrist. "Enough, Olivia. Emily's young. It was only a slap. Don't make a fuss."
The scratches on Olivia's face stung like fire, but that was nothing compared to the ache in her heart.
Back when Olivia first got together with Andrew, she was bullied, too.
Back then, she was an obstetrician at the hospital, while Andrew was the golden boy of the Walker family in Soudinburg.
Andrew was a notorious playboy. His ex-girlfriends could line up from one end of the street to the other. But after a crazy multi-car pileup, he finally caught feelings for Olivia.
He dropped all the girls around him and went all in for her. Three years later, he finally won her heart.
But after that, Olivia was constantly bullied by Andrew's ex-girlfriends. The worst was when one of them hired a gang of thugs to try to rape Olivia.
Andrew went absolutely berserk. He beat those thugs within an inch of their lives and nearly strangled that woman to death. "I'm warning you. If you touch Olivia again, I'll break your neck myself. I mean it."
After that, nobody ever dared mess with her again. But now, the woman in his arms wasn't Olivia anymore. It was someone else.
After what felt like forever, Olivia slowly lowered her hand. "Fine, I won't bother with her. Andrew, let's get a divorce."
"Divorce? What are you talking about? What's going on between you two?" Emily suddenly grabbed her stomach, crying out in pain. "Honey, my stomach hurts so much. Is our baby going to die?"
Before anyone could respond, a sudden gush of bright red blood began pouring out beneath her.
Olivia, acting on instinct as a doctor, stepped forward to help, but Emily screamed in panic and shoved her away. "Get away from me. I don't want you anywhere near me. It's all your fault. If you hadn't slapped me, I wouldn't be bleeding.
"Andrew, I'm terrified. Hurry and call someone. Save our baby. If anything happens to our baby, I'll make her pay. I'll ruin her career for good."
