Chapter 7
"My birthday party is just a few days away. After that, I'm getting married and leaving the Frost family once and for all. From now on, we won't have anything to do with each other. Now, all of you, get out of my room!" I snapped, my voice trembling with fury.
With that, I shoved Devin, Eric, and Jacob out of my room and slammed the door shut behind them.
Bang!
The moment the door closed, it felt like the whole world went silent.
Just when I thought they were finally gone, Eric's cold, disdainful voice came from outside the door.
"Violet, stop pretending. None of us believes you'd ever fall for someone else," his voice dripped with contempt.
I gave a mocking smirk, my eyes icy as I stared at the closed door.
Whether they believed it or not, I would never marry any of them.
Just as they were about to say something, Tiffany's call suddenly came through.
"Devin, Eric, Jacob, I'm heading out now," Tiffany's voice echoed from the phone.
The three of them shot each other a look, then turned and headed out.
For the next three days, Devin, Eric, and Jacob didn't show up once.
Meanwhile, Tiffany kept texting me.
She sent me a bunch of photos, Eric helping her clean up, Devin carrying food out of the kitchen, and Jacob watering the flowers with a big grin.
Tiffany: [Miss West, I just nicked my hand while chopping veggies, but they're fussing over me like crazy. Honestly, I'm so moved.]
I glanced at her message and just ignored it.
I was going through everything that reminded me of Devin, Eric, and Jacob from all these years.
There were so many things, like stuffed animals, toy cars, and the bags that they gave me when I was little. And when I got older, they gave me dresses, scarves, gloves, and more.
And then there was that love letter I never sent.
I gathered it all up and threw it into the fire pit, watching the flames swallow it up.
The fire burned strongly, and with it, all those memories from the past were burned away.
When Devin, Eric, and Jacob came back, they caught me in the act, and their faces instantly fell.
"Violet, what the hell are you doing?" Eric shouted.
He immediately turned to look for water, desperate to put out the raging fire.
Devin and Jacob snapped out of it and rushed to find something to douse the flames.
But it was already too late.
I watched the flames devour everything, seeing those things burn away one by one.
By the time the fire was finally out, all that was left was a pile of ashes and a few scraps.
Eric glared at me, his voice cold. "Violet, why did you burn all this?"
"I didn't want someone I care about to see these things and get the wrong idea," I replied, my tone flat.
With that, I turned and headed to the kitchen for some water, but Devin stepped in front of me, blocking my way.
Eric shot me a nervous glance, but then, thinking back on everything that had happened, he convinced himself I was bluffing.
"Violet, your birthday party's in a couple of days. Are you really still throwing out these empty threats?" he said, his voice sharp.
I looked at them with a blank expression. "Call it what you want. You'll see for yourselves at the party."
Before I knew it, the day of my birthday party arrived.
By noon, most of the guests had already arrived, but Eric and Tiffany finally made their entrance, fashionably late.
Tiffany's lips were swollen, and there were red marks on her neck that she hadn't even tried to hide. Showing up together like that, it was obvious to everyone what they'd just been doing.
If this had happened before, I would've marched right up to Eric and demanded to know what the hell he was thinking.
But now, I just gave them a frosty glance and turned my back, chatting with the other guests like nothing happened.
When Eric noticed my gaze lingering on Tiffany for a moment, he instantly pulled her protectively behind him.
He was clearly expecting me to get angry or confront him, but to his surprise, I didn't react at all. I just stayed silent and did nothing.
After a moment of awkward silence, he led Tiffany over and stopped right in front of me.
"Violet, are you pretending not to care just because you're afraid I won't marry you?" Eric sneered, his voice thick with sarcasm.
