Chapter 5
I glared with dissatisfaction, my tone a bit bitter.
I said, "We watched Wilfrid, Humbert, and Ava grow up under our care. Even if they are not biologically ours, they are pretty much so.
"It was already hard for them to discover the truth. If I didn't take extra care of them, who knows what they will do.
"Travis, can't you understand a mother's feelings?"
Travis took a deep breath.
He asked, "Then can't you try to understand our three biological children wandering out there? Seeing them hungry and cold, doesn't that pain your heart?"
I grabbed his clothes tightly.
After a three-second pause, I replied, "I can only say that this is fate."
Travis found it hard to believe.
He said, "You have carried those kids for ten months. How could you be so heartless? They are you kids!"
His persistent attitude made me increasingly irritated.
I said, "I already said we are not meant to be!"
Travis tried to reason with me, but when he realized it was useless, he fell completely silent.
Watching him so angry he didn't want to speak, I felt dissatisfied again.
I asked, "What does that expression mean? Do you hate talking to me now? Travis, have you fallen out of love?"
Hearing this, Travis immediately released his hand that was grabbing me.
He turned away, looking cold.
Seeing this, I instinctively knew I was right and instantly flew into a rage.
I said, "Stop right there. Did I hit a nerve? What are you running away from? Can't you face me?
"When you were cheating on me, why didn't you think about today? Why are you running? Stop right there!"
Travis yelled without looking back, "I'm going to work!"
I was half in doubt but took a few more steps after him.
I asked, "You wouldn't be using going to work as an excuse to fool around out there, would you?"
He snarled angrily, "I told you, I'm not."
Hearing this, I finally relaxed.
Following him downstairs, I suddenly felt something was wrong and abruptly grabbed his arm.
I rushed up and stood in front of him, pressing him repeatedly.
I asked, "Are you trying to take the opportunity to help those three bastards?"
Travis paused.
I knew that I was right.
I lunged at the stair railing, as if about to jump.
Travis's pupils contracted.
He pulled me down at once.
He said, "That is enough!"
I snorted coldly and threatened, "I'll send someone to watch those three. If you secretly help them behind my back, I'll divorce you."
Travis felt speechless.
He took several deep breaths, closed his eyes, and walked away.
I was afraid Travis would secretly mess around behind my back, so I assigned people to watch my three biological kids all the time.
If they received more money than they could afford, I would immediately stop it violently.
Travis was so angry at my approach that he gave me the silent treatment for a whole month.
This had never happened previously.
Since marrying him, he had never spoken harshly to me, let alone given me the silent treatment.
I was both angry and anxious, but I couldn't bring myself to admit defeat and seek peace.
He was clearly the one at fault.
The kids took turns mediating between us.
But Travis and I just couldn't stand each other. We stayed cold and silent to each other.
Another month passed.
At the annual board meeting, Wilfrid received all the votes to succeed as the next chairman, securing the position of company heir smoothly.
At the same time, Humbert was thriving in the finance department and praised for his talent and promise.
Ava's wedding with the Moss family was approaching.
Ava was two years younger than Humbert, but she skipped three grades and graduated from university a year earlier than him.
She currently held the position of executive president in the company's design department.
She got engaged to Neil right after graduating from university, and the wedding was coming soon.
No matter what, I must make sure that her wedding would go smoothly.
No one was allowed to ruin her wedding.
She was raised by me. In my heart, she was like my biological daughter.
She must marry into the Moss family as the legitimate member of the Wood family to avoid being controlled by them.
As for my three biological kids, just the thought of them made me angry and disdainful.
I found them disgraceful and disgusting.
