Chapter 2
"I've been around her day and night. Do you really think I don't know what kind of person she is?" Camron snapped.
"Adelynn told me everything. You used to sleep with old men and only got 30 bucks a night. Now you're asking Adelynn for a loan—3 thousand dollars, really? Do you actually think you're worth that? Pathetic!" Camron sneered.
Camron's trust in Adelynn was absolute, and that was why he was coming at me like a rabid dog, snapping at every chance he got.
Just then, my phone screen lit up. The lock screen showed a photo of me and my husband, Mario Barber.
Camron's eyes turned cold and ruthless. He ordered his bodyguards to shove me onto the sofa, snatched my phone, and hit the speaker button.
"Daphne, the company finally made my promotion official! You're my good luck charm! I'm at the dessert shop grabbing your favorite cake. Want anything else? Let's go all out and celebrate!" came Mario's cheerful voice through the speaker.
Camron waved the phone smugly in my face. "Daphne's not in the mood for cake right now."
I blurted out, desperate, "Mario, I can't really talk right now—just hang up, I'll explain everything later..."
Before I could finish, Camron snatched the conversation. "Let me clear things up for Daphne. I'm her ex, you know, and my wife's known her forever."
"Back when she was still in school, Daphne was hooking up with old men for cash, never even cared to use protection. That's why she can't have kids now. And these last couple years?
"She's been making up reason after reason to leech money off my wife—but the truth is, she's been blowing it all on some toy boy and having the time of her life."
"Honestly, forget the cake. If you really care, you'd be better off getting to a hospital first," Camron jeered.
I was shaking with rage.
Mario stayed quiet on the other end. I was sure he was calmly trying to make sense of this mess.
Before I could get another word out, Camron hung up and chucked my phone at me. "Whatever, Daphne. You've got your fair share of men anyway. When you're sick of this one, just swap him out for a fresh toy."
He crossed his arms, giving me a mocking look.
I didn't dare call Mario back, afraid Camron would start barking again like the mad dog he was.
Just then, my phone buzzed with a new message. It was from the private investigator I'd hired.
Sure enough, Adelynn was hooking up at a hotel with her toy boy again today.
The investigator sent over every photo he snapped—plus the exact hotel room number.
A wicked smirk crept across my face as I scrolled through the evidence. He wanted to back me into a corner? Fine. Don't blame me for playing hardball.
I wiped the emotion off my face, letting my voice go cold and straight-up called Camron out.
"Camron, aren't you the one who keeps calling me a man-eater? If you've got the guts, why don't you blast my business everywhere—let the whole world know what kind of person I am! Maybe then your wife will finally quit sticking to me. So, go on, I dare you!"
Sure enough, Camron's face twisted with fury. He barked, "Alright, Daphne, you asked for it—don't blame me if things get ugly!"
With that, he whipped out his phone, started a livestream, and shoved the camera right in my face.
Within moments, viewers came flooding into the stream by the hundreds.
"Oh my god, Mr. Rodriguez from Nemotors Games is actually livestreaming!"
"Wait, is that the multi-millionaire Camron Rodriguez?"
Judging by the chaos in chat, nearly everyone here was his fan. In less than a minute, the stream had blown up with tens of thousands of people watching.
Seeing the viewer count skyrocket, Camron started putting on a pitiful act for the stream.
"Hey guys, I really need your help. My wife's so-called bestie tricked her into going out this morning, and now she's totally gone—her phone's dead and there hasn't been a single message. If anyone spots Adelynn Moss, let me know or hit me up right here."
The chat blew up instantly, everyone spamming how loaded and devoted he was.
Right away, Camron started dragging my name through the mud. "This woman's called Daphne Stanley. Don't be fooled by her sweet face—back in school, she was hooking up with guys just to pay for a new face. Afterwards, she just clung to sugar daddies wherever she could. Heck, I was even duped by her myself."
"Thank god I met my wife, though—she was the one who pulled me out of that nightmare," he went on dramatically.
"But my wife's just too soft-hearted and easy to exploit. This woman's got more issues than a hospital ward—she's always running off for some checkup. That's why she's constantly borrowing cash from my wife. Honestly, I totaled it up, and she's bled us dry for more than 1.5 million dollars by now!"
As soon as Camron finished talking, the comments section blew up in an instant—everyone online was hurling insults at me.
[Don't judge a book by its cover—she's got that innocent face, but turns out she's a total player!]
[Mr. Rodriguez and his wife are seriously down on their luck, having to deal with this gold-digging vampire.]
[This has got to be a scam. Please lock her up already before she messes someone else's life!]
