Chapter 1
When my best friend Adelynn Moss found out I was dating Camron Rodriguez, one of the hottest names in the business scene, she kept saying rich guys always go bad and decided to put him to the test for me.
She asked Camron to hang out—just the two of them—stayed over at his place, and somehow ended up pregnant with his child.
Adelynn strutted over to me, a smug grin plastered all over her face.
She sneered, "Wow, you really are clueless. I only did all this to swipe your boyfriend away.
"Now I'm living the rich wife dream, and you—just a broke nobody—don't even think about coming near us again!"
I wasn't mad at all. Honestly, I was just relieved I caught on to what a jerk Camron really was before tying the knot.
What they didn't know was that Camron wouldn't have become a multi-millionaire if it weren't for me.
Ever since I was little, people around me always ended up filthy rich—it was like I sprinkled good fortune wherever I went.
Camron without me? He'd be flat broke within days.
Ever since Adelynn became a rich lady, I just cut her off—no explanation, no goodbye.
I thought that would be the end of it, but she kept using me as her scapegoat in front of Camron.
She'd be out all night, partying with her boy toys, but tell Camron I was the one messing around, got some STD, and she had to stay at the hospital to take care of me.
When she ended up in the hospital after getting too wild with her boy toys, she'd cry to Camron, saying I was the other woman and got beaten up by the wife, and she only got hurt trying to protect me.
So Camron would always pull me aside to warn me not to corrupt his "pure and innocent" wife.
This time, Camron sent me more than a dozen voice messages—all he did was point fingers.
He said, "You don't even respect yourself. What did Adelynn even do wrong? Why should she get dragged into your drama and always have to do everything for you?"
"She paid for your college tuition and living expenses, never asked for anything in return. But you're still not satisfied—always finding some reason to borrow more money. How did I never realize you could be so thick-skinned?"
"You called her out early this morning, and she still hasn't come home. Her phone's dead. Just what did you do to her?"
The rest of the messages were just straight-up filth—nothing but insults and curse words.
I stared at those messages, a dry, self-deprecating smile flickering across my lips.
Funny thing was, Camron really did love me once.
Back when we started dating, his gaming company blew up. In just a few years, he dropped one hit game after another.
His bank account multiplied like crazy—before I knew it, he was worth millions.
Then out of nowhere, Adelynn started faking concern for me, going on about how guys always go rotten when they get rich and saying she needed to put Camron to the test herself.
It wasn't until I found out she was pregnant that everything clicked—she'd gotten together with Camron long ago, and had been constantly throwing dirt on my name in front of him.
I couldn't do a thing, so I just handed Camron over to her. They rushed into marriage, all thanks to that convenient baby on the way.
I figured if I just kept my distance, I could finally get some peace.
But then Camron suddenly called me out of the blue, yelling at me for being dirty and gross, accusing me of catching something nasty and still being shameless enough to bug Adelynn for money.
I knew Adelynn was up to her old tricks again, so I hired a private investigator to dig into it.
Sure enough, after they got married, Adelynn kept using me as her scapegoat to swindle money from Camron, all while sneaking around with her boy toys.
Camron totally fell for every rumor Adelynn spread about me, and honestly, I didn't even waste my breath trying to set the record straight.
Because I knew—the more he despised me, the faster the luck he had only because of me would disappear without a trace.
I didn't answer Camron's messages, and it wasn't long before he showed up at my apartment, banging on the door like he was ready to break it down.
I swung the door open, and before I knew what was happening, he yanked me hard by the collar.
"Where's Adelynn?" Camron barked.
His grip was so fierce that I could barely breathe—my voice came out in weak, broken gasps.
"She's your wife, not mine... How would I know where she is?" I sputtered, struggling to get the words out.
He shoved me hard, and I slammed into the doorframe with a heavy thud.
Camron didn't even blink. He barged right inside, tearing through every room, but Adelynn was nowhere to be found.
"You only hang out with lowlifes. Who knows if Adelynn got herself in trouble because of you? She's pregnant with our second child—if something happens to her, you'd better be ready to pay for it with your life!" Camron snapped.
I scoffed inwardly, lips curling in a sneer. 'Who knows which random guy Adelynn's out there hooking up with this time?' I thought.
After Camron tore into me for no reason, the anger boiling inside finally spilled over. "You just eat up anything Adelynn tells you, huh? If you're that desperate to be her little lapdog, why not go sniff her trail and fetch her yourself?"
"And besides," I added coolly, "who even knows if that second kid she's carrying will actually have your last name?"
I wasn't just talking out of my ass—I had proof.
Camron's veins bulged with rage, his fists cracking as he clenched them so tight.
