Chapter 2
After Grace died, Jerry locked himself in the bedroom for a few days.
When he finally walked out of the room, he said, "All her parents' fault. She happened to be sick. It was fate."
I was glad that he had finally moved on.
After that day, Jerry didn't talk about Grace anymore.
He was better to me than before.
He personally prepared me three meals a day, no matter how busy he was.
I didn't want kids, so he cooperatively had a vasectomy.
Feeling grateful, I begged my mom to help him with his business and introduce more big shots to him.
I thought that my happy life with Jerry would last forever.
It lasted till my dad was charged with corruption, and my mom was accused of money laundering for my dad. Both my parents were sent to jail.
Only then did I realize that Jerry had never forgotten Grace's death.
He blamed my parents and me on Grace's death.
On a pitch-dark night, he tied me up, drove me to the mountain where Grace's convent was, and kicked me off the cliff.
"That's what you owe Grace," he said.*****
I planned to stop the wedding the moment I realized that I had travelled back in time. However, Jerry moved faster than I did.
His anxious look alerted me that he had also travelled back in time.
Jerry ignored May's question and dashed away.
Hearing May, Tom hurried over and tried to stop Jerry from leaving.
"Are you out of your mind?" he shouted.
Only then did Jerry pause in his tracks. He looked back at his parents and said, "Dad, Mom, I have something important to do. There is no time to lose. Maggie, be good, and I will be back soon."
His face was calm, and his voice was steady.
He habitually made arrangements and issued orders.
I was supposed to be happy to see that face.
Now, it disgusted me so much that I wished to tear it into pieces.
I threw my veil aside and coldly looked at Jerry.
"Are you sure that you want to walk away from our wedding?" When I questioned him, I failed to conceal my hatred.
Jerry knitted his brows unhappily. "Maggie, cut it out. I don't have time for your hysterics." Then, he hastened away.
From behind, I shouted, "Jerry, you can't leave before we straighten things out."
Without hesitation, I told my bodyguards to stop Jerry.
Since he cared about Grace so much, I would help him tell the whole world about that.
Hearing the noises, the guests of my wedding gradually gathered around us.
Jerry instantly pulled a long face. "Maggie, do you have to make a fuss now?"
He forced a way through my bodyguards and then drove away.
I pretended to break down. Standing rooted to the spot, I burst out crying. One of my bodyguards followed Jerry in time.
When I couldn't squeeze out more tears, I wiped my face in front of those guests. I showed them an aggrieved look, and I said nothing.
It was a grand wedding with many guests, so Tom had to apologize to my family for the blunder Jerry had made.
May held my hand and earnestly said, "No matter what happens, you are my only daughter-in-law."
My eyes turned red as I deliberately said in a trembling voice, "What is wrong with Jerry? Why did he leave his own wedding? I just wanted a reason, but he considered me unreasonable.
"My family is a decent one in Moonland, and there are men interested in me."
The Gordon couple had shame and embarrassment on their faces. Holding my hand, May kept appeasing me.
After one deep breath, I said, "My bodyguard is following him. Why don't we go together to find out what his important thing is?"
The Gordon couple nodded.
My dad showed no objection to my suggestion and drove us over.
The car stopped in front of a convent. With red eyes, I got out of the car and led the way.
We arrived just in time. Because of Jerry's interference, Grace failed to take her first vow. Now, she collapsed and cried her heart out.
She said, "I have nothing to live for. My dad is in jail, and my mom is already dead. Now, I just want to be a nun to serve God."
Jerry pulled Grace into his arms and said, "I am here, am I not? You have my word that you will lead a good life as before, no, a better one than before. Come live with me."
Bang! I timely staggered and bumped my cheek against the door of the convent.
When Jerry and Grace gazed at me, I was covering my cheek and wailing with tearful eyes.
"Jerry, did you hurry away to compete against God for her?" I asked.
