The three of them were stunned when they saw me.

Guess I didn't look like the heartbroken mess they expected. I was in pajamas, holding a can of beer, my expression calm, even with a hint of a smile.

"David," I leaned against the doorframe, took a swig of beer, "Did your doctor really let you out? You're in the last stage of liver cancer, still causing trouble; aren't you worried you'll kick the bucket even sooner?"
