Chapter 5
As I opened the door after changing, I ran straight into Edward.
I really don't want to talk to him, so I walked away.
But Edward yanked me back into the changing room, locked the door, and his voice was icy.
Edward sneered, "Figures, a girl raised in the gutter. For a few dollars, you'll stoop to any dirty trick."
I let out a cold laugh and pointed at my head.
"Edward, if your brain's not working, maybe you should have it removed." I said.
"Your brother's younger, hotter, and even better in bed than you. What makes you think I'd ditch him and go after you?"
Edward froze for a second, then, his face flushed with both anger and embarrassment as he grabbed my wrist.
"Amber. So you’ve gotten a second chance at life too." he said.
I sneered, fixing my gaze on Edward's fake innocent face, taunting him without a shred of respect.
"So what? You returned from death as well. Why cling to me like this? Are you hoping to repeat everything with me?"
It seemed like I'd hit a nerve.
A flicker of panic flashed in Edward's eyes, so quick I almost missed it.
His voice was low and menacing. "Do you think everyone's as shameless as you? I'm here to warn you to stay away from Charles from now on."
I let out a cold laugh, stepped forward and tapped his pale, handsome face mockingly. "Your brother won't leave me alone. If you have time meddling, go make babies with your fiancée."
Edward's face was half-hidden in shadow.
His gaze wavered as he looked at me, uncertainty flickering in his eyes.
But honestly, my legs were trembling.
In my last life, I hurt him so many times.
If he was really out for revenge, I'd be toast.
I wouldn't stand a chance if he really wanted revenge.
I forced myself to act cool, yanked my hand back, and shot back angrily. "Believe it or not, I walked into the wrong room that night. As if I'd ever want to seduce a pervy old guy like you."
Those last words must've really gotten under his skin.
Edward's face darkened instantly, like a storm brewing.
He barked, "Stop right there."
Yeah, right, as if I'd stop.
I yanked the door open and bolted out of there.
Afraid Edward would come after me, I didn't even give Charles or Sophia a heads-up. I headed straight to the underground garage, grabbed my bag, and got out of there.
But as I walked past Sophia's car, I caught sight of a masked guy sneaking around, messing with something near the vehicle.
Something felt off, so I called out loudly, demanding answers. "Hey. Who are you? What do you think you're doing?"
The guy realized he'd been caught and bolted, dropping a bunch of screwdrivers and wrenches all over the ground in his panic.
I stared in shock, my eyes wide.
Wait, could it be that Sophia and Charles's car crash in my last life wasn't an accident at all?
Fueled by rage, I rushed forward and grabbed him, determined to get a good look at his face. "You're not getting away."
As soon as I ripped off his mask, he suddenly pulled out a knife and lunged at me.
My breath caught in my throat.
For a split second, I thought I was about to die all over again.
But suddenly, a large hand reached out, snatched the knife away, and blocked it right in front of me.
I stared, stunned, as Edward's hand was covered in blood, and he started wrestling with the guy.
Thank goodness the bodyguards arrived in time, otherwise, things could've turned into a total disaster.
I sat there on the ground, still in shock.
As I watched Edward being taken away in the ambulance, I couldn't help but feel completely lost.
In my last life, I stabbed Edward in the back so many times.
Why would he still save me?
