Chapter 3
Edward shot me a cold look.
Edward said, "You were fooled by people with ulterior motives. Charles, you need to stop hanging around with those shady types."
Charles shot back, "Amber isn't some shady person."
Charles started coughing violently.
I clenched my fists.
As expected, Charles had gotten a second chance at life.
In my previous life, he treated me like his private possession, using and discarding me as he pleased.
I wasn't even deemed worthy to see my own newborn baby.
No matter how desperately I pleaded, he never stopped degrading me.
Later, one of the maids in the Foster Family couldn't bear to watch anymore.
She secretly helped me escape.
But Edward caught me with barely any effort.
As a warning, he cruelly toyed with me right in front of my father, sending him into a fatal heart attack.
The night my father died, I finally snapped and stabbed him.
I couldn't even remember how many times I stabbed him.
All I remembered was when I finally snapped out of it, Edward's gold-rimmed glasses were splattered with blood.
He couldn't even get a word out.
He slumped on the couch, staring at me in silence.
I screamed and ran out.
But I tumbled down from the attic.
Next thing I knew, I was reborn.
This time, no matter what happens, I'm done with the Fosters, forever.
No matter what.
I'd rather die than ever get tangled up with the Fosters again.
I want a quiet, peaceful life with my dad. That's all I need.
I fixed Edward Foster with a cold, hard stare.
"Edward Foster, are you deaf or what? I've already broken up with Charles. The only thing you should be doing is keeping your brother in line and making sure he stays out of my life." I said.
Edward's eyes widened in shock.
I didn't even look back as I walked out of the hospital room.
"Edward. How could you talk to Amber like that? Now she doesn't want me anymore. Are you happy now?" Charles shouted.
The hallway echoed with Charles's furious yelling, the sound of something heavy slamming, and Sophia's shriek.
Sounded like Charles and Edward were going at it.
None of it mattered to me anymore.
For the next few days, I threw myself into my studies like a madwoman.
My grades skyrocketed.
Out of the blue, my advisor asked if I wanted to apply for a spot in the overseas graduate program for my major.
I thought it over.
Back in my last life, I was stuck with the Fosters, like a prisoner.
I never knew what freedom felt like.
This time, I want to live for myself, really live.
I want to see what else is out there, see the bigger world.
I picked up the pen and signed my name on the application, quick and decisive.
Charles was nowhere to be seen for a long time.
I thought I could finally breathe easy and start living a normal life again.
But then, out of nowhere, Sophia came looking for me at school.
I barely had any dealings with Sophia.
All I really knew was that she and Edward had grown up together: practically childhood sweethearts.
So what on earth did she want with me?
Sophia said, "Amber, Edward's always been a gentleman, never rude to anyone. Maybe there's been a misunderstanding between you two?
"Let me apologize for him. Don't let what he said get to you. Promise you'll come and have some fun at my engagement party next week, alright?"
Sophia handed me the invitation with a warm smile.
A gentleman?
I smirked coldly.
Edward was better at pretending than anyone else.
Underneath it all, he was nothing but a monster.
Sometimes, I'd brood over it with bitter hatred.
Did I really stab him to death back then?
I should've watched him take his last breath myself.
But now that he’s lived this life again, he must hate me to the core.
Who knows what kind of nasty revenge he's scheming against me?
I shook my head, turning her down. "Sorry, Sophia, I..."
