Chapter 3

It was like all the air had been sucked out of the room.

Edward stared at Nina, his eyes wide with disbelief. "Nina, what are you talking about?"

Nina, tears streaming down her face, pulled out her phone, scrolled through her photos, and held it out for Kurt to see.

I glanced over.

It was a picture of the two of them in front of city hall.

Edward and Nina were standing side by side, each holding one of those little marriage licences.

The date was three years ago, in the spring—just three months before Edward and I got engaged.
