On my first day in the hospital, Charlotte walked into my room, carrying a meal. She looked radiant and confident.

"My dad heard you were admitted, so he had the housekeeper make some special soup for you," she said sweetly.

She poured the soup into a bowl and pushed it toward me with a bright smile. I reached for it, but as my fingers touched the bowl, she suddenly pulled back, and the scalding hot soup splashed onto my chest, burning through my clothes.
