Chapter 4

Conrad pushed himself off the floor.

His hands were shaking. I could see the tremor in his fingers as he gripped the metal bed frame and hauled himself upright. Sweat still glistened on his forehead. The mate mark on his neck had faded from angry red to a dull, bruised purple, like something that had been burned and was only now beginning to scar.

He straightened his spine. He squared his shoulders. He did what every Alpha does when the ground shifts beneath them — he reached for dominance.
