Chapter 2
I furrowed my brow as I looked at her, bewildered by her audacity to say such things.
"What? Aren't you a woman?"
Faith was taken aback by my words, glancing over at Pierce as if to silently imply, "See, I'm just that impressive," though there was a hint of tears in her eyes.
Pierce’s expression darkened at her reaction.
"Kalani, I've told you that we're just friends. Do you really have to be so confrontational?"
"If I really wanted Faith, you'd be out of the picture entirely."
He had repeated similar reassurances countless times, and I had always believed him—until now. But today, the two of them had brazenly disappeared into their room right in front of me, yet they still expected me to accept the same old excuse?
Seeing my silence, Pierce softened his tone.
He approached me, took my hand, and brushed it lightly with a kiss.
"Kalani, don’t be upset. I promise you, on our wedding day, I’ll come for you with great fanfare."
"You wouldn't want Faith to feel embarrassed at our engagement party because of the coffee mix-up, would you?"
"I know today was rough for you, but I assure you I'll make it right once we're married."
He was aware of my discomfort, yet he was more concerned about Faith's dignity than mine. He hadn't considered how humiliating it was to have my fiancé embarrass me at our engagement party.
Suppressing my disgust, I pulled my hand away from his, and responded icily:
"Pierce, let me make it clear to you right now; this wedding will not happen because I do not intend to marry you."
