Chapter 2
At first glance, Robert looked totally calm, but only I could tell he was about to snap.
Robert was gripping his pen so hard his knuckles were white. He pressed so hard the pen tip bent almost sideways and ripped through three sheets of paper.
'Bro, chill! That's my medical record, not the freaking Death Note.'
"Is it possible she's pregnant?" Mom sounded super hopeful.
I jumped up. "Honestly, I feel fine. Pretty sure my period's about to hit."
I knew with how possessive Robert got, if I stayed any longer, I was toast.
But Mom pushed me right back into my seat. "Come on, it took forever to get this appointment. Since we're here, if you feel off, just talk to the doctor."
I felt like I was squirming in my seat, nerves shot, and my heart pounding.
Robert put on his gentle doctor act. "Maybe Yvonne's a little embarrassed with you in the room."
Mom suddenly got it and started heading out. "Come on, I'm your mom. There's nothing I haven't seen before."
'Mom, do you have any idea what kind of man Robert Yates really is?
'He's a total animal in bed. On the surface, he seems all prim and proper.
'If this were a movie, it'd be a disaster flick, and right now, I'd totally deserve a long, dramatic shot.'
As the exam room door slowly closed, it felt like the guillotine was coming down on me.
With the only audience gone, Robert finally dropped the act. He set down the pen he hadn't even been using to write my chart.
That cold, untouchable doctor look was gone. His eyes, usually hidden behind those silver-rimmed glasses, were sharp and mocking. "Well, well, Yvonne, you really outdid yourself. So, who's the baby daddy?
"We broke up just two months ago, and you're already knocked up? That person who texted me was right. You really are easy..."
Robert suddenly stopped himself and said coldly, "Whatever. From now on, we go our separate ways. You're just here for a check-up, nothing more."
I was totally confused. 'What text? What does he mean by easy? Did Robert get hit by a scam or something?
'I swear, my heart's always been true to Robert. Okay, fine, I'm a little wild before I met him.'
The first time I ran into Robert, it was nothing romantic or exciting.
That night, I finally wrapped up a deadline for a client and called a few friends to go check out some male strippers.
But the damn map app totally screwed us over and led us to a quiet bar instead.
We didn't even bother to look, just walked right in.
The place was super classy, but honestly, I was pretty basic. After scoping it out, I just ordered a bucket of Coke.
Turns out, Robert was one of the bar's investors, and he just happened to be there that night.
When he brought our drinks over, Robert gave us a friendly warning. "Mixing Coke and alcohol isn't great. It can make your heart race."
By then, my friends had already gotten me pretty tipsy, and I was totally out of it. All I saw was a hot guy standing in front of me, so I grabbed his hand and blurted out, "Damn, this place has some seriously hot male strippers. How much for the night?
"Damn, look at those hands, those abs. This guy's top-tier."
I was so wasted I don't remember much, but my friends said I not only groped him, but I also tried to wrap my arms around his waist and go in for a kiss.
My friends were so embarrassed, they wanted the ground to swallow them up and pretended they didn't even know me.
The next morning, when I finally sobered up and heard about my antics, I wanted to die of embarrassment.
But honestly, I was still totally into his looks. I came back with my best puppy eyes, pretending to apologize, but I couldn't stop checking out his chest and messing with his sleeve.
I kept stalking him at the bar for days, and finally, Robert snapped. He cornered me and said, "Yvonne, are you here to apologize or just to get handsy?"
I just gave him a cheeky grin.
"If you're with me, you can't book male strippers anymore," Robert said.
"And you can't keep eyeing other hotties either. Think you can do that?" Robert made it clear.
"Of course. From now on, my heart belongs to you." I promised, dead serious.
The night I first met Robert was actually my first time ever thinking about hiring a male stripper, just for kicks. Honestly, I just wanted to try something new.
But fate had other plans, and I bumped right into my perfect guy. After that, nobody else even mattered.
I was the one who said all the savage stuff when we broke up, but Robert was the one who actually called it quits.
Robert told me he was just too busy at the hospital, barely had time for me, and didn't want to drag me down.
What a load of crap.
