Chapter 1
They called me the blind mom who supposedly abused her own kid before dying in an accident at home.
Once the news got out, the whole internet agreed I had it coming.
People online even started crowdfunding for my daughter, Lucy Morrison, and calling me a cold-blooded mom.
They thought that I made my daughter act as my guide dog in the blazing 100-degree heat.
After Lucy was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition, I refused to pay 150 thousand dollars for her treatment.
Over a hundred thousand people liked my obituary online, and some even commented that my ashes should be mixed into pig feed and fed to the farm animals.
To appease the raging public opinion, Lucy contacted the TV station and demanded a "National Memory Trial," which was a live broadcast to put my cold-blooded life on display for everyone to judge.
On the day of the trial, the courtroom was packed with self-proclaimed justice warriors, all there to support Lucy.
A person said, "This mom's straight-up evil. Who makes a little kid walk outside in that kind of heat?"
Another person said, "She'd rather stack cash than save her own daughter. Heartless doesn't even begin to cover it."
Someone else said, "I can't wait to see her get dragged through the mud today. Let the whole world spit on her name!"
Lucy, her face tight with anger and sorrow, slammed the start button.
The crowd's rage was so fierce that it felt like they were itching to tear me apart.
But the very next second, the giant screen showed my husband snatching my cane, forcing Lucy to take me outside, and secretly filming it all to raise money online.
The whole courtroom went dead silent.
Lucy's face went pale, confusion flickering in her eyes.
She muttered to herself, "No, that's not right. In my memory, it was Mom who made me go outside...'
My husband, Lance Morrison, reacted instantly. He stepped up and wrapped his arm around Lucy's trembling shoulders. "Lucy, don't be fooled by this.
"Back then, I had no choice. I did it to raise money for your treatment. I wanted people to see how cold your mom was, so the world would pay attention to what we were going through!"
He turned to the crowd, looking sincere. "Think about it. If I hadn't done this, how else would I have gotten the proof? How else could I have raised the money for Lucy?"
The crowd started whispering among themselves, and someone suddenly recognized Lance.
A person said, "That's Professor Morrison, the famous professor everyone's seen online!"
Another said, "He's always donating online and even takes his students on volunteer teaching trips to remote places. He's such a good guy!"
Someone else said, "A guy like Professor Morrison would never make up lies about his ex-wife."
Another person said, "How did someone so decent get stuck with a woman like her? It's a total embarrassment!"
Just like that, the crowd started hurling even more vicious insults at me.
The confusion in Lucy's eyes slowly faded. She nodded and turned her gaze back to the screen.
Lucy's resentful glare sent a shiver down my spine, though I was already a ghost.
Suddenly, my memories jumped back to years ago.
Inside the delivery room, nurses and doctors paced anxiously.
A doctor said, "The mother's not doing well. The baby's in a bad position, contractions are weak, and labor's taking way too long.
"Where are the family members? We need someone to sign. We might have to do a C-section!"
My mother-in-law, Misty Morrison, said coldly, "C-section? For what? Every woman has to give birth.
"Back then, we popped out babies and went straight back to work. C-sections cost extra and ruin your chances for a second kid."
In agony, I clutched the nurse's hand, forcing out the words through gritted teeth. "I can do it. I can keep going..."
After hours of agony, a sharp newborn cry split the air.
The scene shifted. I was gently cradling my newborn daughter in my arms, humming a lullaby, totally out of tune.
My eyes were overflowing with love and care for Lucy.
Meanwhile, Misty stood there with a frosty glare, jabbing her finger at me and spitting out, "Useless. All you did was give birth to a worthless girl. You've ended the Morrison family's bloodline!"
Back in reality, Lucy was completely stunned, unable to believe that her sweet grandma Lance always talked about didn't care about her one bit.
The audience broke out in shocked whispers.
