I had no idea how long I'd been out.

When I opened my eyes, all I saw were the blurry white hospital walls.

My best friend Samantha's voice buzzed in my ear.

She said, "Oh my goodness, you're finally awake. Do you know how long you were out? Nearly twenty-four hours. If I hadn't made it there in time, you might not be here now."

Dazed, I tried to sit up and almost toppled over.

Sensing my move, Samantha propped the hospital bed up so I could see.
