The night Elvira Currey was assaulted, she was with me the entire time. There were no surveillance cameras on that stretch of road. I was the only witness. Yet I had been drugged and knocked unconscious. I knew nothing. Even though doctors detected sedative residue in my body, the police still refused to rule out the possibility that I had staged everything myself. Because Elvira had once said that as long as she lived, she would never allow me to marry her brother, her parents were convinced I was the real culprit behind her death. They hired five thugs and sent them to my door, forcing me to relive on my own body the violence Elvira had suffered that night. I collapsed, desperate, helpless, and decided to prove my innocence with my life. Jeff Currey dragged me back from the edge of death. Over and over, he told me, "Gina, don't be afraid. I believe you." For my sake, he even broke completely with his family. Fearing the incident might leave me traumatized, no matter how busy he was, Jeff always personally accompanied me to therapy. Except this time, I woke up a little earlier than usual. The doctor said cautiously, "Mr. Currey, Miss Gina Macy has undergone deep hypnosis seven times already. Her answers have been consistent every time. She truly appears to know nothing." Jeff replied coolly, "Do it three more times." "Mr. Currey, this hypnosis technique isn't fully developed yet. It can cause irreversible damage to the central nervous system. Three more sessions could leave her in a vegetative state—or kill her outright…" Jeff said, "I said, three more times." Only then did I finally understand that Jeff had never believed me. Since then, I would let him have this life of mine.
