Chapter 4
My fiancé's parents were very kind. They didn't look down on me because of my background or family. Instead, they told me gently, "If you want anything, just let us know."
They looked at me with eyes full of concern.
My fiancé, Kyle Wright, was also very gentle.
He could have hired a maid to take care of me, but he did it himself.
When I got scared during thunderstorms, he would drop everything and come back to me.
One time, I heard him talking on the phone with a doctor.
The doctor sighed and said I had psychological trauma, which was why I was afraid of thunderstorms.
Psychological trauma? Perhaps so.
After all, every time there was a thunderstorm, fragmented memories would surface in my mind.
But when I tried to remember, I couldn't recall anything.
Given that it was traumatic aftereffects from my injury, I figured trying to remember would only cause me more harm, so I simply stopped thinking about it.

One night, Kyle took me to a restaurant for dinner when suddenly, someone blocked my way.
I looked at the person, only to realize he was someone I knew.
He said, "Lucy, come back to the Wilsons' residence with me."
Daniel stood in front of me, his bright eyes resolute and his tone commanding.
Kyle got angry at once. "Daniel, you may be my cousin but don't go too far. You've a fiancée.
"Moreover, Lucy and I will be getting married in a few days too. What do you think you're doing? Haven't you hurt Lucy enough already?"
Kyle had always been gentle. I've never seen him so furious before.
Still, when I met Daniel's gaze, I subconsciously hid behind Kyle.
I said, "Kyle, I'm scared."
Daniel's face darkened at my words.
Trembling, I hesitantly apologized, fearing I would anger Daniel again.
I said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Wilson. Dad said Mom entrusted me to you, and I lived in the Wilsons' residence for four years.
"However, I truly can't remember anything from that time. Nonetheless, thank you very much."
Daniel's breath caught. A flicker of hurt crossed his face at how formal I was.
Just then, Sofia walked over. Thinking Daniel was coming to confront me, she gently consoled him, "It's alright, Daniel. If this was about what Lucy said last time, there's no need.
"She's just young. Besides, I trust you. You don't need to scold her for me anymore. Everything will be fine after we get married."
She leaned on Daniel's shoulder, but shot me a glare.
I remembered Sofia was Daniel's fiancée, but I didn't understand why she was so hostile towards me.
And so I greeted politely, "Hi, Sofia."
A strange look appeared in Sofia's eyes at my words.
Daniel clenched his hands.
Perhaps he realized Kyle and I would be getting married in five days, he finally nodded and forced a smile at Sofia.
He said to her, "Yeah, you are right. Everything will be fine from now on."
Kyle pulled me behind him and said, "Lucy, let's go."
I nodded and followed Kyle out of the restaurant.
But even after walking quite a distance, I could still make out Daniel's figure standing in the restaurant.
Daniel and Sofia seemed to be having an argument.
How odd.
*****
Only five days remained until the wedding.
During these five days, everyone seemed exceptionally busy.
Of course, that also included me, the bride-to-be, as I had to try on wedding dresses many times every day.
I told Kyle there was no need for such trouble.
However, he said solemnly, "This is something a girl only experiences once in her lifetime. We need to take it seriously, and make sure it's the right one."
I was deeply moved, though I also felt bad for him having to accompany me for so long every time.
And so, I told him I could go try on wedding dresses by myself.
Kyle smiled and teased, "Don't you want me to see you at your most beautiful?"
"Of course not." My face flushed as I smiled teasingly, "Didn't you say you secretly liked me for many years?
"I was afraid you'll faint from happiness when your dream comes true."
This time, his ears turned red.
After a while, he held my hand and vowed, "Lucy, I'm really happy to be marrying you."
He looked like he was gazing at a treasure he had lost and found again.
I hugged him back. "Me too."
