Chapter 2
Seeing that Elian was about to leave, his dad, Holden Cole, slapped the table hard. "Are you going to see that seductress? If you dare walk out of here today, I will act as if I never had a son."
Relatives also began to dissuade. "Elian, don't be foolish. Today is your wedding. You can't just walk out like that."
But their words couldn't reach Elian, who was already consumed by his obsession. He let out a cold snort. "Isn't a human life more important than a wedding? What's more, it's not that I won't come back. Why do you have to be so aggressive?"
Then he glanced at me as if granting me a favor. "Wait for me here. You are not allowed to go anywhere without my permission."
This was not the demeanor and tone a college student who had just graduated should have.
This was clearly Elian, the old fox who had been steeped in the business world for years.
I clenched my fists subconsciously, and the images of my mom breaking down and crying and my dad being taken away kept playing back in my mind.
Fortunately, now it wasn't too late.
I pushed the crowd away and looked at him coldly. "Are you sure you want to go to Claire?"
My tone was serious, and people only thought I was angry because he was abandoning me to see Claire.
But they didn't know that I was actually resenting him for forcing my family to death in our previous life.
He retracted his gaze impatiently. "Do I need to report everything I do to you?"
With that, disregarding how I felt, he left me behind and turned to walk away. Looking at his back, I took a deep breath. "I'm not a cheap woman.
"If you go to her today, from this moment on, there will be no connection between you and me."
If we didn't make it clear in front of both families now, things would get much messier later.
I don't want to see anyone associated with him again.
Elian thought I was just throwing a tantrum. After all, in the previous life, I had loved him to pieces.
I had fought with my family to marry him, and I had clung to him for years.
He thought there was no way I would be willing to leave him.
He said impatiently, "Making a scene in front of all these guests. Aren't you ashamed of yourself? I'm going to see Claire today. If you have the guts, cut all ties with me. Otherwise, get out of my face."
As he spoke, he pushed me to the floor and left without looking back.
He didn't actually use much strength, but if I didn't put on a pitiful show, how could I win the sympathy of everyone present?
I fell to the floor, covered my face, and wept bitterly. "You heartless man. I've done so much for you, and you still think it isn't enough. Do you have any idea how much I've sacrificed all these years?"
My parents immediately slapped the table.
"Holden, what did Elian mean? It's not like my daughter couldn't find anyone to marry her. How did your son promise us before the wedding?
"He can't even wait for the ceremony to finish before running off to his mistress. He and you showed no respect to my daughter at all."
Beads of sweat ran down Holden's head as he explained, trembling, "This is a misunderstanding."
I gritted my teeth and looked in the direction he had left, looking heartbroken. "Since he is so heartless, there's no need to hold onto this relationship any longer."
Elian's mother, Julianna Cole, saw her rich daughter-in-law slipping away and stomped her feet in desperation. "Louise, what are you saying? As long as we are alive, you will be our only daughter-in-law. That seductress will never set foot in our house."
I laughed. In my previous life, after our family fell, I cried and begged them for help.
But they hadn't been like this then. They had looked down on me with such arrogance.
"After all these years, you still haven't given our son a child. We should have divorced you long ago. As for what happened to your family, you can only blame your father's greed. What does that have to do with my son?"
Only then did I realize that this family was cut from the same cloth.
The play should come to an end here.
I gritted my teeth and stood up, shouting in front of all the guests, "Since all our relatives are here today, let's make things clear.
"Since Elian has been so unrighteous, don't blame me for being disloyal. I'm not going through with this wedding. From now on, he has nothing to do with me."
With that, I threw myself into my parents' arms and sobbed, ignoring the desperate pleas of Elian's parents.
After half an hour, they were all expelled, and the world was quiet.
