Chapter 2
Cole and I... we had something no one knew of and we happily kept it at that.
I didn't think I was ever going to let others know about us simply because Cole would get frowned up.
I felt his soft lips press a chaste kiss against my neck.
I heard him breathe me in. "You smell so good."
I grinned, giving my citrus scented shampoo a solid ten.
"You're comfy."
Cole reached over my head and put off his side light and then we were in total darkness.
I loved it.
"Goodnight Aria."
"Night Cole."
I took me less than a second to fall asleep.
I heard Cole's friends pull up just after three in the morning.
I shot up from bed instantly, jumping to the window.
If I stood at the other end, I could perfectly see the front side of his house.
His parents were out of town for a couple of days so the house was empty.
I saw his friends pick him up just after nine and he was dressed so perfectly, with his washed out jeans and long-sleeved black v-neck shirt.
His hair was curled on top of his head and he had a brown beanie on.
Gosh, perfection.
I turned back around to my bed, picking up my pillow and started on throwing them on my bed.
I heard his friends shouting and yelling, all sounding drunk but funny at the same time.
They yelled out things I couldn't make out as I threw the covers over the pillows that were spread on my bed.
Cole had left his curtains open, and just before he left, he had called my name.
"Wait up for me okay!" he had shouted, in a rush.
I laughed at him which had earned me a small scowl.
"Shut it or you're getting Type A tonight." That had immediately shut me up.
And now, I stood right at my window, waiting for him to come in. His friend's car was long gone and I was slightly worried why Cole was taking so long to come to his room.
He was probably checking around the house.
Just as I contemplated to get inside his room, his door opened.
My heart stopped when I saw who stumbled in. Or more likely, who Cole stumbled inwith.
My gasp was so loud, I feared my parents heard me.
I put a hand over my mouth, stuck watching a girl shove her tongue down Cole's throat.
And he was doing it right back.
I knew it was so wrong to watch but my feet wouldn't move and my head was spiralling wildly.
Before I knew it, Cole had the girl nearly naked and on his bed.
Cole lost everything expect his briefs.
When Cole dropped his face inside her neck, the girl turned her face towards me, her eyes closed and her face portraying all shades of pleasure.
It was a girl I recognised from our school, Mira.
When I heard her cry out, I knew it was my cue to get the hell away from my window.
I walked backwards, until the back of my knees hit my bed.
I threw myself in, pulling the covers right to my chin.
I felt something burn and I when I focused properly, I knew it was my heart that was burning.
Looked like Cole would be getting Type A tonight.
Just not with me.
Oh my God.
Saturday and Sunday morning were spent the same.
I was curled into my bed, the covers drawn over my head and I was watching stupid videos on YouTube with my phone.
Then my mum would come and ask if I wanted lunch, dinner or a snack.
That was one of the only times I would force myself to get up and do something.
Food was vital for survival- it had to be taken in.
Sunday morning I told my mum I had the worst headache ever and a major cough.
All false lines tumbling out of my mouth but I didn't care.
I knew it was going to school on Monday, the following day and truth to be told, I couldn't go to school yet and face Jon without rethinking everything.
And I meaneverything.
Cole was with someone Friday night, when he asked me to stay up and wait for him.
I couldn't help but think he brought Mira on purpose; maybe to tell me to stop being so clingy?
I don't know.
But then I'd have an irking thought and think to myself that what Cole and I had, he needed it as much as I did.
It was our coping mechanism.
During the day, we were something, an object to please the society order.
He was the Cool thing, and I wasn't.
But the night, we closed the curtains and made sure the night was ours and ours only.
Some nights we'd spent talking all day and get no sleep in. Some, little less talking and more sleeping.
No Type A, but more of Type B. Nonetheless, we made the nightours. So let me be, when I'm in denial and think Cole didn't mean to sleep with Mira and ditch me.
The Saturday and Sunday nights were a complete different story.
I did everything I could to not stay still.
I cleaned my room, paced around the room, re-ordered my pencils and pens, ripped out a few pages from my book, wrote a few notes clashing with dialogue.
I did everything to keep myself busy and I stayed the hell away from the window.
When I knew my mum would come in I'd jump in bed and put a hand over my head.
"Still hurting love?" My mum asked Sunday night.
I nodded, fluttering my eyelids close.
"Yeah, it's killing me slowly." I said, my voice coming out grouchy and rough.
I felt the end of my bed dip low and I slowly open my eyes to see a concerned mum looking at me carefully.
"You've been stuck in your room the whole weekend.
I think you need to see a doctor with this headache."
I started shaking my head frantically.
"No doctors!
I'm really fine.
Just give me a cough syrup or something."
My mum let out a sigh, the wrinkles around her eyes creasing tightly.
Her soft brown eyes stared back at me with disbelief and with a soft pat on my leg, she left the room.
I dropped my head back on the pillow, my arm covering my eyes until I was seeing nothing but total darkness.
And then my mind took me to one night I spent with Cole.
One night in the past.
"Do you ever think, that one day, the differences around us will ever be forgotten and everyone will for once see things the same?"
I curled my fingers around Cole's, my head softly resting on his broad chest.
The feel of his fingers running through my hair eased me, filling me with this feeling of full content and desire.
I dropped our interlinked hands on his hard chest and slowly lifted my head up to look him in the eye.
"Why would you want that?" I whispered up at him.
Cole held my gaze when he answered.
"So no one...
I don't know... maybe so that everything doesn't have to have two explanations.
One thing is one thing.
It can't be seen as two different things."
I dropped my head back on his chest, exhaling slowly.
"Everything has two different explanations.
Without the two, it wouldn't be one."
I could hear Cole thinking it through, the pace of his fingers in my hair slowing by the second.
I was focused on the set pace of his heart beat; strong and hard.
I could tell Cole had the will to be here, and that was he was saying really had him pondering.
"Goodnight Aria."
"Night Cole."
I smiled and when I knew he was fully asleep, I whispered my true thought.
"Without our differences, I wouldn't be in your bed Cole."
I opened my eyes slowly and saw the soft night light was coming in through my window.
Oh no, my mum didn't close the curtains!
It was Monday night and I didn't go school this morning.
I sluggishly knifed off the bed, straightening my cow pyjama shorts and my brown tank top.
I edged closer to the window, my bag pressed against the wall.
It didn't go unheard by my ears, the quiet calls from Cole in the night.
Saturday night, he called for me more than five times.
I didn't answer and plugged in my headphones and closed my eyes tightly.
I had fallen asleep with Sage Ellis singing in my ears.
Sunday night, I heard Cole fighting with his dad about something and then a few minutes later, he called for me again.
I didn't answer and then I had let Jude Sterling do the deed and lull me to sleep.
And now, Monday night, the curtains were open and I needed my sleep.
My mum had came in after dinner and looked me straight in the eye.
"You say you got a bad cough but not once did I hear you cough through the day.
And then you told me it happens during the night.
But again, no coughing."
I scrunched my forehead at her, pursing my lips tightly.
"Where you listening to me?"
My mum flicked her head to the side, tapping the side of her ear.
"I had my ear pressed against the door."
Someone help me.
So that meant I had to go to school the following morning which totally sucked and ruined my plan to stay hidden for a millennium to figure out what the hell I should do.
I was still pressed against the wall.
Taking a deep breath, I itched closer.
A bit more.
I opened my ears and willed my sense to double, to listen to any sound which could indicate whether Cole was in his room or not.
I couldn't hear anything.
