I was born numb—unable to feel love or hate. Edward took that as a sign I was stupid. His family had forced him to marry me, and for years, he brought home woman after woman, never hiding his affairs. He'd kiss them slowly, then glance at me with a smirk, daring me to watch. "Claire, this is how normal people show affection," he'd say. He never bothered to muffle the sounds from the bedroom. "So what if she hears? She'll probably just think we're messing around," he'd say. I was too dazed to react, letting him coax me into washing the sheets afterward. I'd wear a revealing dress and dance suggestively just to entertain his latest girlfriend. He even let her film it and spread the video around my lab. Seeing me humiliated, he'd wrap his arm around someone else and laugh. "See? She really is just a fool. What could she possibly understand?" But one day, everything changed. Edward caught me at the elevator, locked in a passionate kiss with his sworn enemy. His face twisted with rage. "What the hell are you doing?" I blinked, wide-eyed and innocent. "Just making friends. The way you showed me."
