Chapter 5

Amber thought it was just maintenance coming to fix the pipes. She slipped on her slippers and strode to the door, looking proud and a bit aloof.

There were three people standing outside.

Leading the group was Tyree Sherman from property management, the always-smiling, chubby guy.

Behind him were two staff members in work uniforms, their expressions serious.

"Hey, Tyree, what's going on?" Amber asked, leaning against the doorframe and giving them a sideways glance.

Tyree's smile was polite but clearly forced.

"Ms. Pearce, we need to confirm something with you. Mind if we come in and talk?" Tyree asked.
